Centennial's Newsday Tuesday
Families' Weekly Newsletter 4/26/22
A Note from the Principal
Dear Centennial Families,
Thank you for making our Family Fun Night a HUGE success! We were thrilled to welcome hundreds of Centennial families for this community carnival that serves to unite and strengthen our school!
This week, our students in grades 3-5 are completing grade level end-of-year mastery assessments (the OSTP is a state-level assessment and more information is shared below). Students in these grades are working hard to "show what they know." We know for sure our students and teachers are smart cookies and we are cautiously optimistic that, even in spite of COVID school closures and instructional gaps, our students will overcome with ongoing support. We will share individual's student assessment results via the parent portal on June 14 (more information is forthcoming).
PK & Kindergarten Information Night is May 3!
- Parents of new Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten students, please attend our PK & Kindergarten Parent Night on May 3. Please click here for more details.
Ongoing reminders...
Would you like to eat lunch with your student on his / her birthday (or half-birthday)?
- Families, we are pleased to offer this opportunity (it makes students feel so special to have a family member eat lunch with them on their big day)!
- We have a few spots available to reserve at each lunch time, each day
- Family members sit only with their own child (sorry, no other students to maintain safety/security of all students; thank you for understanding)
- Sunny day option: outside picnic table seating
- Sign up to visit / bring lunch on your child's birthday / half-birthday here!

FAMILY FUN NIGHT
Thank you to all our families for joining us last Friday. It was wonderful to see everyone together and having fun!
We need to take a moment to thank our Family Fun Night committee and volunteers. It took A LOT of people to pull off the night, but you did it and we are so appreciative of all the hours you put into making it happen. Thank you also to our sponsors and donors who without your generosity our event would not have been such a success.
Here is a link to the photobooth photos in case you didn't receive yours or you just want to smile. We loved seeing all your silly, goofy poses!
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK is NEXT WEEK!
The end of the school year is only 3 weeks away and our Centennial Teacher Appreciation Week PTO Team has planned a week of pampering treats and activities during Teacher Appreciation Week for next week, May 2-6!
Our theme is, "Thanks for Making Learning Easy, Peezy, Lemon-Squeezy!"
Families, we would ask for your support in making our teachers feel extra special in the following ways . . . thank you!
- "ALL ABOUT MY TEACHER" Activity: Please check your child's Thursday Student Folder this week for an All About My Teacher questionnaire. Please have your student complete and bring back to school by Friday, May 6 to present to their teacher. If your form does not make it home, please see the digital copy sent by your homeroom parent.
- GIFT CARD FRIDAY. We want to treat our teacher to an array of gift cards on Friday, May 6. Please send all gift cards by May 4th. Your homeroom parent will be sending out your teacher's favorites list for reference or access a digital list of all staff favorites here.
Also, please know all forms of appreciation are welcomed during Teacher Appreciation Week or any week. So please do not feel limited to these two things. The PTO is happy to accept donations to the Teacher Appreciation Efforts (PTO store online). Your student will also get to participate in FUN DAYS next week: PAJAMA MONDAY and WEAR YELLOW FRIDAY!
Are You a Dad of a Great Student? (If So, Please Volunteer to Serve as a WATCH D.O.G.!) (Just 1 (or more) day(s) per Year)!
DADS, Did you know?
WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students!) is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement organizations in the country. Since the program’s creation in 1998, more than 6,800 schools across the country have launched a WATCH D.O.G.S. program of their own. Each school year hundreds of thousands of fathers and father-figures make a positive impact on millions of children by volunteering millions of hours in their local schools through this amazing one-of-a-kind program. Who are WatchDOGS? Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the school principal or office team. (These jobs include helping to supervise games at recess, reading to classes, helping with campus beautification projects, and much more!)
PLUS: YOU and Your Child(ren) will be mentioned on a school-wide announcement on the day(s) you serve!
