Bulldog Bulletin
January 10, 2020
We are asking everyone to take a moment to check-in with us. Your responses will go directly to our school counselors who are ready to support our families. Thank you.
Welcome Back, Bulldogs!
CONGRATS to everyone who participated in the Light it up with Lexia challenge! The following classes were awarded the class prize: Mrs. McDonald, Mrs. Turner, and Mrs. Sutton...we are so proud of you! Thank you to our PTA for sponsoring the virtual Author visit for the class winners! Congrats also to the individual student winners: Hunter Harris (Lawson) and Rain Requena (Litofsky) - we are so proud of these students and everyone who participated!
Our next challenge for students is the 2021 Virginia PTA Citizenship Essay Content - We want to encourage our students to consider sharing their voices through writing. This year’s selected theme is “How can we stand together when we are so far apart?” If you decide to participate, please share a copy of your writing with Principal Jones - courtney_jones@ccpsnet.net - I would love to read them!
We have several student and family engagement opportunities this week:
- Join Mrs. Tracz, assistant principal, for Storytime via Facebook Live on Tuesday, January 12 at 7:00 pm.
- Join Mr. Berge on Thursday, January 14 for a Virtual Family Trivia Night via Zoom (flyer linked below).
- Check out Ms. Copp & Miss Hevener, our school counselors, via Facebook for their weekly read aloud - posted by 7:30 pm every Thursday night.
Thank you to all of our GHES families for your continued support and encouragement!
With gratitude,
Mrs. Jones & Mrs. Tracz

Gifted Referrals
Gifted education deadlines and processes for the 2020-21 school year have been adjusted due to the pandemic. Referral deadlines are now as follows:
- Jan. 15, 2021: Students currently in grades 2-12
- March 15, 2021: Students currently in grades K-1 (CCPS-enrolled students only)
Parents/guardians may submit an online referral form before the deadlines by visiting https://mychesterfieldschools.com/curriculum/gifted-education/
Some important notes regarding adjusted processes for this school year:
- Gifted education assessments must be administered in person and cannot be done virtually. Testing details will be communicated to families in letters sent after the appropriate referral deadline.
- Testing will take place in the school building according to an appointment schedule arranged by your child’s school. All safety guidelines will be in place before, during, and after testing.
- For testing, students will need transportation to and from the school building.
- Students will complete the paper-and-pencil creativity test, online thinking and reasoning test, and online Student Perception Inventory during this session.
Monitor status students who would be reviewed this year will have their monitor status extended for another year unless a parent/guardian requests evaluation. Referred kindergarteners and first graders from last spring who were not evaluated due to school closures will be evaluated this year during the window of their current grade level. Another referral form is not necessary for these students.
