Greece was the birthplace of Western Culture. Modern democracies, the judicial system, legal equality, systematic thought and sciences, literary forms and art all owe a debt to ancient times.Greeks treasure their culture. It gives them more than a sense of partaking in a common identity, molded over more than 3,500 years of recorded history.
Athens
Athens is the capital and largest city of Greece. Athens dominates the Attica region and is one of the world's oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning around 3,400 years. Classical Athens, as a landlocked location was a powerful city-state that emerged in conjunction with the seagoing development of the port of Piraeus

About 75% of Greece is mountainous and only about 20% of the land is arable. The country falls into four main geographical regions. Northern Greece includes portions of historic Epirus, Macedonia, and Thrace. It takes in part of the Pindus Mts.
