Mrs. Markello’s kindergarten class at Morgan Elementary School of Science and Engineering is learning about the egg hatching process up close this year!

As part of their science class, her students have been studying topics like living and nonliving things, what plants and animals need, and plant and animal classification.

“We enjoy studying life cycles as well, and have raised a queen butterfly and a monarch butterfly in class,” said Mrs. Markello. “I decided to go ahead and hatch chicks with the kids. My mother was a teacher for 30 years and did this with her kiddos a lot, so it is special to me. This is my first year in kindergarten and I am in love!”

In 2013, the Beltran family moved to Galveston from California. Roy was a sophomore at Ball High School and his younger brother Raul would become a freshman the next year. Now the brothers are gainfully employed as mechanics with Galveston ISD and they owe their success directly to the experience they had in the same school district they now work for.

Post #880 of the Veterans of Foreign War recently hosted it's annual JROTC Awards Night.

The cadets pictured were recognized by multiple civic organizations including the American Legion Post, Association of the United States Army (AUSA), The Order Of Daedalians, Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution (DAR & SAR), Knights of Columbus, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW), National Society of the U.S. Daughters of the War of 1812, National Sojourners, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of Galveston, Sons of the Union Civil War Veterans (SUCWV), and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Technology support for student and staff Chromebooks, laptops, and other district devices has moved the former Alamo Elementary School at 5200 N ½ Street. Please enter through Door 2A on 51st Street. Normal hours will be Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Alternate Hours during STAAR Testing (through May 21) will be 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Fridays. • Are students in Galveston schools

• Have completed grades 3-5
