22-23 School Year Information

Hello BMS Families,

We hope this message finds you enjoying the great weather we’ve been experiencing. As we continue to prepare for students on September 7th, we have some important information to share with you. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact us at 360-709-7400 or visit our website at: https://www.tumwater.k12.wa.us/Domain/10

Here are some important dates/information to start the year.

First day of school: The first day of school for BMS students is September 7th. The first 3 days of school (9/7-9/9) will be early release days. Students will attend school from 8:00-10:30 on those first 3 days.

Strong Start Conferences: BMS will be holding Strong Start Conferences September 7-9 and will be with your student’s Homeroom teacher. The conferences will take place from 11:00am-3:00pm and will be in person (zoom conferences are available for those parents/guardians unable to attend in person). The purpose of Strong Start Conferences is for school staff to learn more about your student and for you, the parent/guardian, to learn about ways to support your student. If you are unable to attend Strong Start Conferences in person, and would like to conference on zoom instead, or are unable to conference during the scheduled days and times, feel free to contact your student’s homeroom teacher to schedule an alternate day and time that works best for you.

How do I schedule a conference? You will be able to schedule a conference with your student’s Homeroom teacher through Skyward Conference Scheduler (how to video). We anticipate sending out the email with the Conference Scheduler link on September 1.

Are you new to Skyward?

Tumwater schools use Skyward for access to student information. All BMS teachers use Skyward to post information about assignments and grades. Please check your Skyward Family Access. Here is a link to a Tumwater Skyward Information page that has an informational video and step by step guide on how to access skyward resources.

Student Schedules: Student schedules will be available to view in Skyward on or before September 6th. All students will start their day in Homeroom on September 7th, and will receive an up-to-date printed schedule to help with navigating the hallways. Please note there might be changes as we continue to enroll students, and work on balancing classes.

Student Chromebooks: All 6th grade, and new students to BMS, will be assigned a chromebook during the first weeks of school.

Speaking of electronics, all students will be required to place all electronic devices (cell phones, wireless speakers/headphones, game consoles, etc.) in their individual locker by 7:50am until the end of the day. Students may check their devices during passing or lunch. Please help us by letting your student know about the expectations, and for our returning students, the changes.

Lockers: Here is a helpful video for students to use on “How to Open a Combination Lock.” All students will be issued a lock and locker from their Homeroom teacher that will be located near all of their classes.

Transportation: If your student will be riding the bus to or from school, you will need to fill out the required transportation request form. Click HERE to be directed to our TSD Transportation webpage.

School Supplies: Supply lists are posted on our BMS Website. Families that need assistance for school supplies, please contact your students’ counselor. Nicole Rakoz works with students with the last names (A-L) and Jill Rotter works with students with the last names (M-Z).

Sports: We are excited to announce TSD has partnered with FinalForms. FinalForms allows you to complete and sign the athletic participation forms for your students. FinalForms saves data from season-to-season and year-to-year. To clear your students for sports, go to FinalForms and create your profile. Sign the required documents and upload your student’s sports physical form. Here is a link to our Athletics Page which provides all our sports information and Directions on how to create a FinalForms account.

We look forward to the 2022-2023 school year!
