Endeavour Library Newsletter
March 2018
Library Newsletters are Back!
As I have returned from my maternity leave...so have my newsletters. :) These are mainly meant to inform teachers on what is happening in library. If we can correlate lessons or reinforce topics you are doing in your classroom than that is all the better! Please peruse at your leisure. These are also located on my Connect site.
What's Happening in the Library this Month?
Kindergarten
Computers! We are introducing Destiny Quest, the online catalog students can use to search for books. As we get comfortable using the computer we will also spend some time learning about coding.

First graders are finishing up the Battle of the Books using the Washington Children's Choice nominees for this year. They will also continue to learn and use Destiny Quest, logging in and putting books on hold.

Second Step - Book Connections
Mean Jean is the biggest bully on the school playground until a new girl arrives and challenges Jean's status as the Recess Queen.
Three selfish frogs quarrel over who owns their pond and island, until a storm makes them value the benefits of sharing.
When a problem becomes too big from worrying about it, a child decides to face the problem and learns that problems can make us stronger.
Technology Tips!
Cube Creator
Cube Creator provides templates designed to break the writing process into six distinct parts. There are templates for writing biographies, mysteries, short stories, and a blank template that you can customize. Students enter the required information into the online template. When the template is completed, it can be printed with lines for cutting and folding to create an actual cube.

Math Pickle
Math Pickle is a free site that offers dozens of fun and challenging math puzzles for students of all ages. The puzzles are designed to foster collaborative problem solving over the course of 45 to 60 minutes. Almost all of the puzzles are presented as a series of small, connected problems that students need to solve to complete the puzzle presented to them. The puzzles can be viewed as slides and or downloaded as PDFs.
