East Side News
Week of November 9, 2015
Our kids are our treasures. They are our future and our bright light. They are like sponges and love to learn. But are we challenging them and modeling risk taking? This isn't in the form of say, taking a risk, such as a truth or dare on the playground or some type of prank, but in academic risk taking? What we want to do is provide risks such as presenting in front of a class, singing a solo for the chorus, video taping announcements such as the East Side News or even sticking up for a friend who is being bullied! These are the risks and what we call the "soft skills" that we need to teach our kids, the social and emotional aspects of our curriculum. How do our kids work together to problem solve? We can always teach the academic skills and to fill in a bubble test, but it's the communication skills that will be the key to foster success for our kids' future. We can do this and model this for our kids. That is our job as parents and as educators and our kids deserve it! Let's do this together!
