The Leopard Tale
November-2018
Hats off

Principal's Points
Andre’ Families,
Thank you so much for joining us for “Bring Your Parent to School Day!” Our Leopards have enjoyed showing off their classrooms and engaging in their learning with you. We are so proud of them for supporting the Districtwide Red Ribbon initiative with their personal pledges and critical writing. Students were seen sporting crazy hair, mixed up clothing, and silly hats, all in support of their commitment to stay drug-free.
As we sail into November, be looking out for information about author visits in the library, the 2nd grade Veterans’ Day program, 2nd and 3rd grade field trips to see a theater production at Langham Creek High School, the planetarium visit for 4th grade, and the 5th grade field trip for a musical performance at Cypress Springs High School. We are so grateful for opportunities to enrich our learning experiences and maximize our potential for continued academic successes. Our Pirate Leopards are sailing strong in their quest for adventure and treasure!
Important Information
Voting-2018
Andre’ Elementary is an official Harris County polling site on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Voting will be held in the gym. Voters will be confined to the gym. Due to the large number of expected voters, and to help focus on student safety and security, we will not have visitors or deliveries. To ensure student safety, all lunches will be in the classroom. Students that purchase lunch will be served a grab-and-go lunch. Thank you for your support in helping us maintain our safety and security measures on Election Day.
Andre’ Welcomes Ready! Set! Teach!
Andre’ has been chosen once again by Cy-Springs High School as a partner school for the Ready! Set! Teach! Program. This program allows high school students interested in teaching, an opportunity to experience life in the classroom first hand.
These Cy-Springs students have been paired with Andre’ teachers who will serve as mentors. As part of the program, the students will observe best teaching practices in action from their mentor, and will apply what they have learned by teaching lessons to our students.
Students helping students, what a wonderful opportunity for our community!
Counselors' Corner
The Core Essential Value for November is Cooperation. Cooperation is working together to do more than you can do alone.
Ask your student:
1. Have you ever had to ask a friend to help you with something? Have you even been asked by a friend to help them do something? How did it feel to work together to accomplish a goal?
2.Think of the last time you cooperated with classmates, siblings or your parents to accomplish a goal. Examples might be group work in class, household chores or helping bring groceries in from the car. Think of how much more time and effort it would have taken if you would have done the task alone.
Words From the Library
The Andre’ library welcomes two fabulous authors in November. Molly Burnham will visit 2nd and 3rd graders on November 7th. Kirby Larson will visit 4th and 5th graders on November 12th. Fliers will be sent home to order autographed books.
What a great turn out we had with our Book Character Pumpkin Extravaganza!
Notes from the front desk
Lunch Visitors
Please limit your lunch visits with your child to one time per week. We have close to 1000 students and want to make sure we have space for all parents who would like to eat lunch with their children. A note is required from a guardian for anyone other than a guardian to have lunch with your child.
Absences
If your child is absent, please send a note on the first day of your child’s return to school stating the reason for the absence. Thank you.
Transportation Changes
If a child’s end-of-day transportation changes, the parent/guardian must send a note with the date, necessary changes and parent/guardian signature. If a note is not received, the usual method of transportation will be followed.
For safety purposes, no changes will be made after 3:30 P.M. and PHONE CALLS or E-MAILS CANNOT BE ACCEPTED.
Student Council
Officer Elections
On Friday, October 5th, fourth and fifth graders running for officer positions presented speeches to all 4th and 5th grade students. Congratulations to the following 2018-2019 Student Council Officers:

Box Tops for Education
Each Student’s Goal= 10 Box Tops in November!
Did you know that Andre’ receives 10₵ for every General Mills Box Tops for Education we collect? As you are preparing for the holidays, and throughout the year, please remember to cut out Box Tops from participating products and send them to your child’s homeroom teacher.
You can send box top clips and certificates in a bag, envelope or on the attached collection sheet.
If each student turns in 10 box tops, our school will earn over $1,100! Wow!
