English Language Arts (ELA)
We have been reading a non- fiction book about Jellyfish, and discussing the difference between fact and opinion. We also have been practicing responding to questions with a complete sentence using the PQA format (Part of the Question is in the Answer). We talked about several different types of poetry and how it is different from the other types of writing. The children are working on poems about jellyfish. Most children chose Acrostic syle poems and some did free verse. They also are writing a Christmas theme story based on the book "Harvey Slumfenburger's Christmas".
Balance and Motion
The excitement about Science continues! We made our zoomers that spun with a pulling force and made rollers to demonstrate a pushing force. We tried to balance objects on our head, and have been reading about Balance and Motion. We will review and have our test this upcoming week. We will take a break from Science and return to Social Studies in January. In February, we will begin our Rocks and Minerals unit.
Math
We took our end of unit test on skip counting, place value and telling time. Some children will need more opportunities to practice in order to be secure on telling time. We will begin learning how to add and subtract using base ten pictures then move into the traditional algorithm.
