Please see below for some upcoming Career Center events just for our first- and second-year students. You all are also welcome to apply to attend the upcoming Grady Goes trip to the Atlanta Tech Village (transportation provided) to learn more about the local tech industry. Read on for more info!
This newsletter will be a way for me to share career-related information. This includes Career Center events, events and other ways to connect with employers, ways to gain experience for your resume, and other career tips. Be on the lookout for it every other week.

Grady Goes Trek to Atlanta Tech Village
Atlanta, Ga.
On Friday, Oct. 20, Grady College students will visit Atlanta by bus to tour the Atlanta Tech Village. On this exciting trip, students will get a tour of the Tech Village, eat lunch during the Startup Chowdown and stay for the weekly Pitch Practice.
It will be an opportunity to network and learn more about the startup experience, as well as how you can stand out in future application processes in the tech industry. The trip will last from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. If selected, there is a refundable $10 deposit to hold your spot, and you will receive it once you board the bus. More information will be provided via email if you are selected. Apply today to get an inside look at the local tech industry!

How to Develop Your Resume from the First Year Forward
Tuesday, Oct. 10

Come to this workshop and learn what you can do to build a strong resume that will get you hired come graduation day (or better yet, beforehand)!
We will cover this and more:
1. The top skills employers are looking for on a resume.
2. Online resume writing resources (the good and the bad).
3. All the different types of experience that you can include on a resume.
4. Create an action plan for gaining experience to set you apart.
Career Advice for First- and Second-Year Students

Attend this workshop to learn more about what you can be doing now to progress toward your future career. “Career” can be a scary word, and seem far from your mind. However, once you understand what most all employers are looking for in candidates, you will be able to navigate your own career development with more excitement and ease.
This workshop will also cover:
1. The importance of gaining experience early in college.
2. How you can stand out to employers for internship opportunities.
3. How to conduct a basic search for internships on Handshake.

Meet with Samantha
To schedule an appointment, call (706) 542-3375. Samantha covers Career Center walk-in hours on Mondays, from 12-2 p.m. in Clark Howell Hall. You can also stop by drop-in hours every Tuesday and Wednesday in Journalism, room 309-D from 1-3 p.m.
Receive assistance with resumes, statements of interest, cover letters, job search strategies, interviewing, applying to graduate school and any other career-related topics. Printed copies of materials are preferred.

Samantha Meyer Bio
Samantha joined the UGA Career Center in December 2014 as a Career Consultant for the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Samantha is a proud "Double Dawg" and Grady graduate, with Bachelor's degrees in public relations and women's studies, and a Master's degree through the Grady ADPR 4+1 program. During her time as a student at the University of Georgia, Samantha was on UGA's PRSSA Bateman team and was a member of the Demosthenian Literary Society, as well as the Women's Studies Student Organization, where she helped plan the annual Athens Take Back the Night event. She is delighted to be able to work with Grady students. Go Dawgs!
