Technology Integration

To support our building goal for classroom technology integration, I would like to document (videotape/pictures) it being used in our classrooms. My plan is to provide a brief presentation to our parents, home and school, and administrators on how tech integration is making an impact on student learning. I'm hoping this will provide support for additional technology equipment purchases in the future.

Report Card Comments Reminder

Please remember report card comments are required for the second marking period. While the use of computer generated comments are permitted and encouraged, additional personalized comments provide the best communication to your families. Please make sure your grammar is correct along with formatting (especially when using the computer generated comments).

As always, all report cards are reviewed by the Principal before being sent home.

Using Office Staff for Copying

I have noticed an increase of requests for our office staff to make classroom sets of photocopies that are being used for instruction that day. While we like to assist/support staff occasionally, these requests take-away from the duties that both Tina and Cathy must complete daily. In addition, copying activity sheets is the responsibility of the teacher and a hallmark of Domain 1: Planning and Preparation.

Welcome Back Kim Rendler

Kim Rendler and Jeanne Cotugno will use Monday and Tuesday of next week as transition days. I would like to thank Jeanne for doing a wonderful job serving our students while Kim was on maternity leave.

The Way Back Bulletin Board

Those of you with a Facebook account know what I'm talking about when I say "Throwback Thursday". We have taken down our Holiday Picture Bulletin Board and replaced it with our own version of "Throwback Thursday" pictures. Find a good picture from way back when (baby, elementary, high school, college, etc.) and post it on our bulletin board by January 30th. We will number them so you can guess who they might be on the form we'll provide. Submit your form to Tina or Cathy to win a prize.

Penny Wars for New Playground Equipment

Starting next week, we will begin our annual Penny War competition to support the purchase of our new playground equipment. We have currently raised $5000, but need an additional $7000 to purchase/install in the Spring 2015.

Please encourage your students to participate!!!

The Pennridge Community Education Foundation (PCEF) is pleased to provide financial assistance to the Pennridge School District in the form of grants for curricular and extracurricular activities that prepare students to succeed in the 21st Century.

Below is a link to the application form. This is a great way to fund a technology tool you would like to purchase or purchase more of. Feel free to send your application to Miles for review/tips as he has experience in grant writing. It would be great for our building (more importantly...our students) to have several winners!

Miles will be Out of District

What's Your Why?

Joanne Youk - Library Clerk

I grew up working in the construction business with my Dad and continued to do so when I met my husband.

Once we had kids, I decided to stay home to spend time with them and watch them grow. As my kids started school, I volunteered my time in their classroom, as well as, in the library. Being able to help a child in his/her classroom and assisting him/her in finding that one particular book was when I realized this is what I wanted to do.

So, I joined the Seylar Staff in 2002 and have been able to contribute in students learning ever since. Even though my children have graduated college, I continue to enjoy working with other children to help them through their educational journey.

Kristy Dilonardo - Personal Care Assistant

I am working in my current position at Seylar Elementary School because I enjoy working with children. I like to help the students as best as I can so that they can better themselves. When the students succeed, I feel great knowing that I was able to help them accomplish their goals.

Angela Nice - Teacher Assistant, DVK

Currently I am a Teacher’s Assistant in the DVK classroom. It is a job that I absolutely love and the reason “why” I love what I do so much is the CHILDREN! They inspire me – they are like a breath of fresh air. The truly are the door to the future. I hope that I give them a love of learning and to be excited to achieve their goals. I love to watch their faces light-up with the “AHA” moments.

At the end of the day, I go home from work knowing that I work with wonderful and dedicated co-workers and have a rewarding job. Who could ask for anything more!

Teaching Resources, Inspiration, and Sometimes a Good Laugh!
