Teacher Talk
We are approaching the end of our year together. I will try very hard not to send you daily emails, but it might happen from time to time. Things are about to get very busy around here!
We are also publishing a class book! Everyone is writing a new poem and illustrating it for publication, and we couldn't be more excited!!! Letters were sent home. If you change your mind and want a copy, please let me know. We'll mail everything next Friday, April 20th.

Class Wish List
You can bring in filled balloons on the morning of the battle or you can send in the packages of "fill and tie" balloons like the picture I sent you. (Fill & Tie can be sent in at any time!)
Concepts We'll Study
We will have our final week with Opal and Winn-Dixie then explore fiction and non-fiction texts. I usually suggest a Winn Dixie party where we eat the snacks they had in the book, and we watch the movie version. I will need your permission to show the movie to your child since it's a PG rating. Info & permission slip here
We'll be using all of the reading skills we've learned over the year to read fiction and non fiction after that. There are some skills that students have asked for more practice with and some skills I want them to practice more. The goal is to be an independent deep thinker who isn't worried about celebrating his/her knowledge on this little ol' test called STAAR.
Writing Workshop:
We have been working very hard on publishing a poem and illustration for our class book. I didn't think we could top our fall poetry party but we may have topped ourselves! We'll record them on flip grid so you can see them before they are sent off to publishing.
Once we finish our poems, we'll begin our final unit of writing: persuasion! We'll study texts that are fiction and non-fiction persuasive pieces then try our hand at the craft. Beware. I've heard that some parents have been persuaded to buy pets or go on specific vacations after this unit!
Science:
We will be looking at the special functions and structures that plants and animals have which help them survive in their environments. Cacti, polar bears, camels, and vines are some of the plants and animals that have special structures or functions. Can you think of more?
Math:
We are working on place value through 999,999; multiplying 2 numbers by 1 number, and practicing all of the math skills we've learned over the year. Each day we have a quick review then move into practicing or learning more about a concept.
