Cooper Mountain Newsletter
August 30, 2018
Welcome Back to School!
While I was visiting classes this week I observed students:
- learning about each other through Scavenger Hunts and Bingo Games
- reviewing math facts through games
- smiling
- beginning a first piece of writing
- creating classroom expectations together
- working on math problems
- listening to and discussing stories
- reading Scholastic News
- using Bookshelf to read books at their independent reading level
- students receiving their usernames and passwords for online work
- learning how to be safe
- learning how to behave like a student
Pre-teaching expectations helps students know how to navigate their school day successfully, and we are careful to make sure students understand all aspects of their day in order to maximize student learning and save time later. It is well worth the time and effort to review and reteach - it provides a safe learning environment for all.
By the way, I will send out a newsletter twice a month on Thursday afternoon. The next newsletter will be sent on September 13.
I'm looking forward to a wonderful year!
Kristin

Announcements
Handbook
A new parent handbook is coming and will be posted to our website by September 7. In the meantime, the current handbook has correct basic information for you, and you may always call the office if you have questions. Please note: We do not allow birthday treats, flower arrangements, or balloons at school. You are welcome to have lunch with your child on their birthday, donate a book to the classroom in your child's honor, or provide pencils, bookmarks, etc, just not food. Your child will receive a pencil and bookmark from the principal on or near their birthday to mark their special day. I am currently working on completing July and August! Thank you for supporting this policy.
Morning Mix
Our morning mix schedule is posted on our school website and available below.
Parking Lot
For newer parents: Our parking lot can be tricky!
Remember to stay in the right half of the lane if you are dropping off or picking up your child along the curb.
Stay in the left half of the lane if you are parking and walking to the Meet and Greet.
Do not change lanes! It is unexpected and will compromise the safety of our school community.
Meet and Greet
Safety is our number one concern. If you are on the blacktop waiting for your child to go home, please stay back and under the covered area. We need to ensure that each child is with the correct adult, and we ask for your patience while we get children lined up, under the covered area, to look for you. Please don't walk between our lines of students to take your child out of line. We will send them to you.
