Week of October 5

Principal Petrick Message

Greetings Farmington View Families,

We have a short week this week with Thursday being a professional development day for teachers and Friday being a non-contract day. However, there will be plenty of action at FVES as we have met our goal of having over 90% Attendance through the first three weeks of the year. On Wednesday October 7th from 3:30 - 5p.m. I will turn myself into a human target taped to the side of the building so that students can come and throw a water balloon at me. This will be in a social distanced drive thru style.

October is Anti-Bullying month! This is a super important topic to discuss with your children. We live in a time when youth have a lot of autonomy online. 84% of 7th Graders in Hillsboro have their own smartphone. Having a conversation with your child about respect expectations as an online citizen is extremely important. Studies show that students who don't think their parents care about what they say or post online are three times more likely to post inappropriate content. In order to do our part to help support good digitial citizens and appropriate "Netiquette" we will have a variety of lessons in October during morning meetings where we will focus on being good digital citizens.

We also hope you take a look at participating in our October STEM Challenge. We will have a monthly STEM challenge that is meant to be a fun activity for families to collaborate on. Pictures of completed projects will be posted to our STEM Folder and and prizes will be awarded.

Have a great weekend!

Mr. Petrick
