Shout Outs - Week of 1/21 - Submitted by RHS Staff Members
- As our school’s DLT, Michael Simpson tirelessly and positively assists anyone and everyone who needs tech help, no matter how big or small. I, for one, am blessed and fortunate to have him as a resource, and I call on him often for various things- even after hours through text, Skype calls from my home to his, and an email chain forever long. He even assists me when he is at other locations helping those students and teachers. He regularly shares things I’m doing in the classroom on Twitter I understand and is always very complimentary in doing so. While I don’t “tweet”, I do want to return the favor and share what an outstanding job he does for our school and give him a well-deserved shout out. He does not know I’m sending this email, but you are more than welcomed to share this with anyone at your discretion, included Mike himself. After all, everyone likes a pat on the back every so often.
- Shout out to Matt Salzman, Doug Cummings, Matt Lovely, and Shari Maresh for willingly giving their Power Hour daily to help our most at-risk students find a path to success. This is tireless and often thankless work, but they graciously give up their own lunch every day to put students at RHS first. Thank you all.
- I would like to give Kayleigh Jewell a shout out. Being new to a school is difficult enough, but with the storm she also had to adjust to new teaching environments. She has had a wonderful attitude throughout the whole semester and put on an excellent dance show last week.
- Shout out to Justine Smith for juggling Prom preparations, Odyssey of the Mind, and Beta's Living Literature!
- Shout out to Tiffany Rhodes for organizing the food drive and working with Beta for competition.
- Shout out to all the NMSI Teachers for the extra time and effort they are putting in for helping AP students succeed and grow! (Gurganus, Williams, Allgood, Thompson, Smith, Vasbinder, Miller)
- Shout out to Mrs. Ehlers for her work with our aspiring actors and actresses in Fiddler on the Roof.
There are FOUR gift cards remaining. Keep those shoutouts coming.

decrepitude
The broken state produced by decay and the infirmities of age.
The house was in such a state of decrepitude, with the paint peeling from it and the porch and stairs rotted through, that the realtor doubted he would be able to sell it.
EVAAS Data Review
On February 18 (our workday), we will be holding short (less than 30 minute) conferences with all teachers who currently (or previously) taught NCFE, EOC, or CTE tested courses. In this meeting we will discuss longitudinal growth trends, current projections, and where our opportunities for growth are.
You will meet with the administrator that is assigned to complete your observations. You may sign up here: Sign Ups (Web view)
On that day, please bring your laptop, and be sure you can access EVAAS and your reports within it. If you need help logging in, that will need to be done prior to this date, as we will not have time that day.
If you are not planning to work this workday, you will need to meet individually with your assigned administrator prior to this date to plan an alternate meeting time. All specially scheduled meetings must occur prior to 2/18.

Upcoming Professional Development at NCCAT
North Carolina educators have plenty of opportunities throughout the fall to attend the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT), a recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers. Applicants are encouraged to register as soon as possible to ensure a spot. Programs are available to North Carolina educators at the Cullowhee and Ocracoke campuses, online and with NCCAT faculty visiting school districts. NCCAT provides food, lodging and programming. Teachers and or their districts are responsible for travel to and from the center and the cost of the substitute teacher. For a complete list of upcoming NCCAT programs, click here.
