Building Excellence Successfully Together

Key News for Explorer Families
We kicked off our Northwood Foundation Boosterthon this week. The excitement for the event was evident as the students were motivated by an energetic Boosterthon team during an assembly on Thursday. Families will get updates from homerooms days leading into the actual run on the 24th. Word is out that admin team members will be running and racing around that day in crazy inflatable suits if we reach our goal. Parents are welcome to come watch their child/ren run during their class run time that day. However, there will be no lunch visitors on the 24th as grade level lunch schedules will be adjusted. The Foundation does so much to support many campus-wide efforts, we’re thankful in advance for your continued support this year.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, it’s been fun to see all the green today! Wishing all Northwood families happiness and good fortune this weekend.
With gratitude,
Heather Rucker
Principal

Second Grade Explorers
Hello from Second Grade! We’ve been having lots of fun learning about stars, sun, shadows, moon, and seasons. The students had a wonderful time making shadow puppets. Read Across America Week was a success! We read so many fabulous books! We’ve just wrapped up our writing unit on opinions. Keep a look out in the library for our second-grade book reviews. The children have been working so hard and showing us that they are getting ready for third grade. We can’t believe the year will be coming to an end shortly! Everyone is loving the beautiful weather and hopes that it will continue.

Third Grade Explorers
Time is really flying in 3rd grade! We recently finished looking back millions of years by studying fossils in Science. It was cool to see how scientists can really learn a lot about an animal by studying the fossil. For example, you can tell if an animal is a carnivore (meat eater) by looking at its teeth.
In the present day, our math classes are beginning a unit on Time & Measurement. In this digital world, it's really important to be able to read an analog clock, so we are doing some hands-on practice. Blasting ahead to the future, we are exciting about our upcoming field trip to the Alliance Theater. Times flies when you're having fun!!
