What's Happening at Park
January WHAP
Principal Message- Meet Mrs. Lindley
Happy New Year!!!! I hope everyone had a great Christmas Break filled with family, sleeping in, and yummy food. I am so excited to be here at Park Elementary. It was definitely a surprise to have such a big change happen for all of us, but I welcome this opportunity to be a part of this great community and school. Park Elementary has a history filled with amazing students, teachers and families and I am honored to be here and to continue its legacy.
Let me introduce myself:
I grew up in Emery County in the very small town of Orangeville. I received my Bachelor’s in Elementary and Special Education from Southern Utah University as well as my Master’s in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University. I have worked as a special education teacher in resource, and self-contained classrooms. I was also a district mentor for new special education teachers. For the last year and half I was the Dean of Students and Vice Principal at Spanish Fork Jr High. I can honestly say that I have loved every position I have ever had. I really am living my dream of being an educator.
I live in Salem with my husband Ben and have a 16 year old daughter, Jaylynn and 14 year old twins, Bracken and Brynn. I have no hobbies and spend all of my free time chasing kids around where my oldest daughter is in competitive dance and my other daughter does cheer and gymnastics. My favorite son is involved in all sports but baseball is the family's favorite.
Top 10 things about me:
#1: I hate going on vacations but we did get away for Christmas this year and I loved it.
#2: Coke Zero makes me happy
#3: I hate being cold and I wonder why I don’t live someplace warmer
#4: I love throwing parties
#5: My kids are my best friends
#6: I love my job
#7: The color pink has always been my favorite
#8: My weakness is Muddy Buddies Chex Mix.
#9: I love to organize
#10: Eating healthy is really hard for me. I definitely have a sweet tooth.
If I can help in any way, please reach out to me!
Have a WONDERFUL month!

Counselor's Corner
Happy New Year Park Parents and Students!! Welcome back!
For a large span of my life, I would religiously make New Year's Resolutions in the 5 main areas of my life: intellectual, physical, spiritual, emotional and social. Some years I did really well and other years it became a "to do" list for the first week of January.
And then I heard about reframing "Resolutions" to "Intentions" instead. That really resonated with me. Setting an intention feels more manageable. It also feels more like I am focused on growth and the constant process of becoming a better version of myself; not just a check-off list.
During the month of January, Mrs. J will teach the final tool of the R.U.L.E.R technique; REGULATE. As a reminder RULER is the acronym for Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing and Regulating. Strategies we are learning to enhance our emotional intelligence skill-set and toolbox.
As we learn and practice healthy self-regulation skills, we learn to complete the stress response cycle, no longer trapping negative stress energy in our bodies. And subsequently, alleviating the physical and mental toll that negative stress energy takes on us.
For better self-regulation, an intention I am setting this year is to give each member of my family a 20 second hug. Every day! I'm curious if this will make an impact on the emotional regulation of my children as well?!? I invite you to join me with this Intention and let's see what happens together?!?
