Digital and eLearning Team
Hi, and a big welcome from the Digital and eLearning Team. Who are we? Well we are the new name of The Online College. Over the last year, we have realised that our function has changed so much from the past that our old name didn’t reflect what we did anymore. I’d like to say a big thanks to the Staff Development Team for letting us have a regular slot on this newsletter for us to tell you all what we are up to and how we can help you all with technology in the College.
On 25th August we unveiled Moodle 2016 for staff and students to use. It’s had a large makeover but don’t worry, there isn’t much to learn to be able to add and edit content. Why did we do this? Well, it was time for a bit of polish and a fresh new look. Also we wanted to take the opportunity to delete parts which were not being used and make the content the main focus on your course pages.
A new project we are working on this year is our live eLearning show #techtuesday This is a 15 to 30 minute live video broadcast on YouTube Live on a Tuesday from 12:30 where we talk about how to use technology for eLearning. At the moment we are in the middle of a series of broadcasts about how to get the most out of Moodle. You can subscribe to our channel at the following link http://bit.ly/2cJ0sTB or follow us on twitter @sheffcolmoodle
Finally, join our Google+ Community to get the latest news and information about Moodle at the college.
Unconditional Positive Regard
Holding people in this regard says, 'I care about you, you have value, you don't have to do anything to prove it to me and nothing's going to change my mind.'
Many of us will take this approach to working with others but may never have referred to it in this way. The educator in the video below describes the positive impact this approach can have, especially on our students:
#UKFECHAT Conference
London: BSiX College- Hackney
Tickets: £20
The UKFEchat National Conference 2016 gathers local heroes from around the country to share the good stuff.
It's a day of pedagogical discussion and workshops, an exchange of teaching, managing, and leadership advice, as well as debate on bigger themes in FE. There's loads of opportunity for everyone who attends to get involved as much or as little as they fancy. It's about sharing, support and collaboration.
Above all else the day will be useful, with new ideas to consider as well as practical tools to use wherever you work, whether you're a sector leader, an experienced teacher or brand new to the profession. Meet like-minded people, get a motivational power-up and have a brilliant day of FE.
