February News
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear University Elementary Families,
I want to sincerely appreciate our school family for their cooperation in the morning drop-off and after school pick-up. This process appears to be running more smoothly and complaints from our neighbors have greatly diminished, in fact I have received praise for the improvement. You have probably noticed that we now have a crossing guard in front of our school. I am working to provide an additional crossing guard across from the park. If you are interested in filling this position please see Dana in the office.

Garden Update
Garden classes are resuming this month! Students will be will be exploring the food of month, Broccoli! To view the Harvest of the Month Flyer to learn more on broccoli click here https://goo.gl/DqCCZt
We are asking families to save and send in paper egg cartons. This month the students will also be planting seeds that were harvested from our garden, creating the starter plants for this spring’s garden. They will nurture these starters in the classroom until it is time to plant.
Our school highly values the outdoor garden classroom experience and we want to sustain it therefore we continue to work writing grants and thinking of fundraising activities that will go toward raising money for our garden teacher. Our PTA has generously supported our need for upstart costs for supplies but these funds cannot be used for paying our coordinator. The coordinator is a much needed position if we are to sustain our community garden and Next Generation Science based classes once a week. We also accept monetary donations so if you or anyone you know would like to contribute to our educational cause, (any amount is helpful) they can follow the following link:

Project Based Learning
I hope everyone was able to either see the photos or drop by to enjoy the public presentations by Mrs. Bender, Ms. Kitavi, and Mr. Kurada’s classes this past month. The students are demonstrating what they have or are learning through their project presentations. They deliver their newfound knowledge with great enthusiasm and pride. It is truly inspiring!
