The Dark Ages
Bailey Standifer & Wolfgang Boggess
"The Dark Ages" is used in the book to refer to the changing times of the past. Generally the Dark Ages referred to the period of time ushered in the time of the Roman Empire. The word "dark" described the ages due to the backward ways and practices that went on in this time. The Dark Ages would be classified as a historical allusion. On page 154 the text "We went right on spitting in the graves of all the poor ones who died before us," on this page he describes the dark times and how the sadness prevails. In this allusion he is describing how the times are rough. This allusion is important and relevant to the book because it explains the times that Fahrenheit are going through.
