Mrs. Greene's 3rd Grade
March 1, 2019
Finally...a full week of learning!
It felt good to get in a full week of academics! We are making amazing strides in all areas of 3rd grade. This is the time of year I see the most growth! It's exciting!!
I conferenced with as many students as I could to go over Winter MAP Scores and to review their latest reading comprehension test. Your child should have brought the test home in his/her Rocket Folder this week. If you didn't get a reading test, that means I didn't have time to conference with your child and I will continue next week. We took another reading test today. I will grade them over the weekend and return them to your child on Monday, March 4.
We kicked off our March Madness Reading Challenge today. All of the students who are participating met in the LGI with some pumped up music and some enthusiastic readers. Students were given their partner and the challenge will begin on Monday, March 4. Look for the Reading Record Form to come home on Monday. They are due back at school on Friday, March 8.
Did you know there are 20 school days left until Spring Break? We will work extremely hard up until the very last minute!
That's all I have for now...
Enjoy your weekend!

We have started memorizing a stanza of a poem. Here it is:
Believe in Yourself
Set your standards high
You deserve the best
Try for what you want
And never settle for less!
Every once in a while I will say the first word of the poem and the students will finish saying it out loud. I want my students to memorize these words so when they start to doubt themselves, they will remember... Believe in Yourself!

Here is What is Planned for March 4 - 8
Reading: Character Studies
- Book Clubs continue to be thriving! Great discussions which include students asking and answering each others' question can be heard all around Room 9. The responsibility that the students are showing toward their reading tasks and assignments are the best I have seen all year.
- Figurative Language - Similes
- Text Structures
Writing: Opinion/Persuasive
- The final persuasive writing pieces are due next Friday, March 8. I will grade them quickly afterward. Be sure to check your child's Data Binder to read your child's final draft.
- We are working on writing response pieces. This requires students to read a prompt and respond to a question or a given task.
Science:
- We will begin studying Rocks and Minerals next week.
Math: Unit 6 - More Operations
- We will finish Unit 6 on Monday, March 4.
- We will take the Unit 6 test on Wednesday and Thursday, March 6-7.
