Beacon Bulletin
October 2018
Recap & Forecast
In the last few weeks, we invited families to meet our principals and teachers at our "Principals in the Park" and "Meet the Teachers" events. These were great opportunities for families to familiarize themselves with our dedicated staff and to hear about the enriching lessons being offered to students in their classes. Beacon and Founders students spent time in the spotlight showcasing their talents at the first JavaJam of the school year. Beacon students also helped make WaterFire's Salute to Rhode Island Educators special by providing food and entertainment. Beacon Charter Schools' District Teacher of the Year, Jamie Miller, was honored at the ceremony along with Teachers of the Year from all across the state.
October will be a time for our students artists to focus on their studies and on getting settled into their school year routines. Our 6th Annual Silent Auction, which will take place on Thursday, October 25th, will be a great opportunity for the Beacon Community to come together to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and honor those who have made steadfast efforts to bring art to our community. It is also a chance to raise funds to support and preserve our high-quality arts programs, more information on this event below.
Stay tuned for all the exciting news the 2018-19 school year will bring!

"Start with Hello" at Founders
Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national, nonprofit organization based in Newtown, Connecticut. SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook School on December 14, 2012. SHP’s sole purpose is to educate and empower parents, schools and community organizations on how to prevent gun violence BEFORE it happens.
On the first day of the "Start with Hello" Spirit Week, Founders faculty and students wore the color green to represent Sandy Hook's school color.

6th Annual Silent Auction
Beacon Charter Schools is holding its 6th Annual Silent Auction on Thursday, October 25, 2018. This evening provides us the opportunity to recognize Beacon’s community partners, those who have made significant contributions to the arts, while showcasing the work of Beacon’s talented student artists. It also stands as our principal means of raising funds to support our award-winning arts programs. Currently, our goals include:
supporting the upgrade of the audiovisual equipment for our theatre;
adding technology to our visual arts program; and
continuing the renovations of the Beacon kitchen.
This silent auction is the centerpiece of this effort.
We are currently seeking sponsors for our event as well as donations of items for our silent auction. Your contribution ensures that Beacon can fulfill its mission to develop artistic thinkers by nurturing self-expression while preparing our graduates with the academic skills necessary for sustained postsecondary success.
This event is a Beacon tradition that allows us to celebrate the successes of Beacon Charter High School for the Arts, Founders Academy and members of the community, while raising funds for our schools.
We invite all families and members of the Beacon Community to join us for this event!
Tickets are $25 dollars in advance and $35 at the door. To purchase tickets and for more information on this event please visit: www.biddingforgood.com/beacongala/2018
