Tikorangi School
Te Kura O Tikorangi. Term 1 Week 1 5th February

KIA ORA TIKORANGI SCHOOL WHANAU
We have had an awesome start to our first week!! Our children are all happy to be back at school and we are too. We do have the best staff and students in New Zealand in my unbiased opinion :)
A big welcome to our new staff this year:
Aaron Bailey-Nowell who will be working across a lot of our classes in a variety of capacities.
Yvonne Martin who will be working mainly in our New Entrant class.
We do have support staff in a lot of classes throughout each day.
A huge thanks to Todd Energy who provide support staff at literacy time in every class for our students. This is a huge commitment of over $40 000 they are supporting us with last year and this year.
A big welcome to our new families as well. We hope to see you all at our School Picnic next Wednesday night.
We have an exciting year planned with as many opportunities as we can fit in for our students. We do have our school events calendar on our website too.
Remember, no school on Monday as is statutory holiday for Waitangi Day.

Professional Development Focuses for staff for 2021
This year our three main professional development focuses are:
- Structured Literacy which is where children are taught to read using the sounds of words and decodable texts. There has been a lot of media coverage about this lately.
- Write that Essay- improving writing skills Year 3-6
- Developing our localised curriculum starting with how are we ensuring our children are curious, active thinkers and what are we doing to provide opportunities for this as we want every child to be curious about everything and actively engaged in their learning.
