January 3rd & 4th schedule with John Porcino
NOTE FROM NICHOLE: Attached is the schedule for January 3rd and January 4th - Final closing ceremonies for the Arts in Residency program. As these ceremonies involve the whole school we are sharing with everyone. Please read through and let me know if you see any conflicts or have any questions. Thank you for helping to make this a wonderful event for our students :)
Thursday- January 3rd
John will visit each classroom to refresh/ warm-up the students before their share.
9:00-9:20 3rd grade
9:20-9:40 4th grade
9:40-10:00 6th grade
10:15-10:30 5th grade
10:30-11:30
*Grades 3-6 are mixed in the four classroom (4-5 students from each grade will be sent to other classrooms to end up with about 15-16 students in each classroom- mixed ages).
*In each classroom students will share their narratives during this time (carousel style). The goal is to have each student share their narrative at least six times with different peers (see Tracy or Nichole for set up instructions)
* An anchor chart will be posted in each classroom. This chart will have conversation starters on it that students should use to share their thoughts with their partners after sharing (before they rotate to new partner).
Note: Remind students as they progress through the “carousel” that each time they read to a new person they should be “growing” as a reader.
Friday- January 4th
9:00- 9:30 (ish) am - Whole school/ Community event - held in gymnasium- parents of grade 3-6 students are invited to attend
-Introduction/ overview of unit
-Couple of student volunteers from grades 3-6 will read their narratives
9:30-10:00 Classroom Presentations
Parents will head back to their child’s classroom (Grades 3-6) - students will share their work to family and other PCS staff
**All hands on deck please! We need as much staff help from the building to come listen to student stories at this time. We would expect that not all students will have families here so it would be nice if we could have each child share with at least one person.
Kindergarten, first and second grade...are you interested in having some, or all, of your students come to our rooms at this time as “audience” members?
Closing Ceremony (held in library) - John will end the unit and give the kids an opportunity to play some of his musical instruments that he has shared over the course of this unit
10:15-10:45 Grade 3
10:45-11:15 Grade 6
1:00-1:30 Grade 5
1:30-2:00 Grade 4
