A Southern Politician!

Get an idea of the south and the civil war!

The President:

The first (and only!) president of the southern states, aka the Confederacy, was Jefferson Davis. He was born the year of 1808, and died in 1889. His home was a town called Beauvoir, in Mississippi.

He was a good man, even a so called hero during the war with mexico.

What are the Confederate States?

Confederate states are the southern states, the ones who believed, or used slavery. Many people that lived there were not a heartless monster like some of you might picture them. Many people didn't believe in slavery at all, but they DID believe that they NEEDED slaves, because cotton was such a big crop (along with others, of coarse.) they needed the slaves to help them efficiently harvest crops and make a living. Some people didn't even have slaves!

But those who did have slaves or believed in slavery overpowered the vote of whether to be a slave state of not, a lot of times they where richer, which also makes them more powerful on the vote.

Union Blockade

The union blockade was an act to block the confederacy from trading, shipping, etc. people managed to get past and trade anyways. These ships that did this where called blockade runners. Most blockade runners would averagely make four trips; although the record for most trips is thirty-three.
