Becoming a Better Christian

By: Gary Coursey

I was always a Christian, its how i was raised, but I wasn't to sure about my church. The Catholic church sort of pushed me away from being a Christian. They were forcing me to do what they said. We then decided to try out different churches and we started going to Bethel United Methodist.

Confirmation, The Retreat, and The Mission Trip

When I was 12 years old, my youth group took a trip to Lake Junaluska for Confirmation into the Christian faith. It was a very moving experience for me and something changed inside of me and I felt closer to God. Last year my youth group and I went to a retreat in the mountains. Many churches go here every year and each year it gets better. It revives you again and gets you excited about God, it makes you feel rejuvenated. This past summer we went on a weeklong mission trip and we worked for people around the Bostic area in North Carolina. The trip was for us to be working for the elderly, disabled or poor, and we were supposed to change their lives. Instead they changed our lives and made us see that God is everywhere no matter who you are or where you are. All of these trips have changed me in some way.
