MMA Montessori Moments

March 25th, 2019

Ritchey Science and Engineering Fair

Thursday was a big day for some of our students as they represented MMA at the Ritchey Science and Engineering Fair at WSU.

Tobin won first place in botany and Shae won second place in chemistry. Aiden, Shae, and Tobin won two special awards each. Ava, Jack, and Rio all received recognition awards. Tobin won the ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair) award, which means he will be going to Arizona in May for a week as an observer of the ISEF Science Fair. Maria Montessori Academy was called 9 times for awards!

UTAH Regional Spelling Bee

Ayden and Pranet represented MMA well at the Utah Regional Spelling Bee Saturday at Hillcrest Junior High, hosted by The City Journals.

2019 GALA at Snowbasin

Thank you MAPA officers (Angela Voraotsady, Natalie Monsen, Shauna Guthrie, and Ashley Carlson) for putting on a beautiful Gala fundraiser at a picturesque location at Snowbasin Saturday. These ladies have worked on this event for almost a year. Shauna has scoured the earth (or at least the west coast) for silent auction donations over the past several months. Thank you to those parent volunteers on the Gala committee and those who volunteered their time to create art with our students. The art auction was exciting and entertaining, especially with the fabulous Chris Garcia presiding as auctioneer. The food was delicious and the company was even better. Thank you to those families and staff who attended this beautiful event and for your support of MMA.

MMA Represents at AMS

Thank you to Ms. Lana, Ms, Kimber, Ms. Kaley, and Ms. Holly who traveled to Washington, D.C. to represent MMA at the National Conference for the American Montessori Society. We are very excited to hear what these stellar educators have learned at the conference. Thank you to those teaching assistants who held down the fort in their absence - Ms. Sara, Ms. Valerie, Ms. Jessica, and Ms. Misha.

Student Lunches

In the past few weeks, we have had many children come to the front office who did not have lunches. Thanks to a generous parent donation, the office tries to keep a few emergency cup of noodles and cups of peaches or apple sauce. We have gone through this stash faster than ever. Sometimes we suspect that the child has a lunch but would rather eat a cup of noodles from the office - thereby making these emergency supplies unavailable to others who may truly need it.

Please try to send your child with lunch to school each day. We encourage children to make and remember to bring their own lunches each day. If your family is struggling sending lunch each day, please call or email René to see how MMA can help.

Junior High Play Information

We are excited to announce that the junior high will be putting on "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." We could use help creating and bringing in props! Specific items we will need can be found in Track it Forward.

A special note from Ms. Sarah:

Dear Parents,

Due to unforeseen circumstances we will need to change the location of our junior high musical "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." The Pleasant Valley Branch Weber County Library will be hosting our musical in their auditorium. We will be practicing with sound and on their stage April 19th from 3:45 - 6:00pm. Our play dates will be April 22nd and 23rd. Doors will open at 6:00pm - and the play will start at 6:30pm and should be about an hour long. This play will be free and available to all public.

It is vital that each student involved is at our rehearsal on the 19th as well as our performances on the 22nd and 23rd as each student has lines and music that other actors depend on. Also, the play will not make sense if one of the characters is missing.

Thank you!
