Hi Staff,
We made it though another rainy week. I think we are in for a few more days of rain. We are getting good at inside recess.
This week we take on the "GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE!" I "challenge" each of you to record how many acts of kindness you do or say. I'd like to pull together in a small movie of these acts. Keep your phone handy and capture students and staff doing/saying "kind" things. Email them to me. I have linked a new video below that reminds us of the power our words.
I hope PLC's were more focused on discussing data, curriculum and best instructional practices. I heard a few of you share this is just what your team needed to kick it into higher gear. Knowing what tests to give and what data to look at is the next challenge. Start with a weekly test on a math standard. Create a test using Illuminate type questions and find ones that align to the difficulty of CAASPP/benchmark questions. Everyone give the test and bring the results to your next PLC. Discuss the results, how was it taught, who needs small group reteaching and how you will reteach it.
Some rooms need a little sprucing up. It is time to tidy up, update walls, clean out desks, replace torn name tags, put up new writing and remove old charts. Maybe have a "spring cleaning" task for kids this week.
Fondly,
Stephenie

Instructional Focus
Trends:
- Saw many different engagement strategies used this week. Remember to build in an engagement strategies every few minutes to reengage brains and make them think and work through the learning.
- Please list your ELD, ELA, writing, and math std focus in you Big Rocks Schedule. See the picture above.
Example:
8:15 ELD-"When" Questions
8:45 ELA-Text Features
11:30 Math-multiplying fractions
- Red zone kids-Send me the names and plan by 1/26 for the 4 ELA and 4 Math students you will focus on to move out of red.
- K-3-standards mapping-Yvette has shared the template. Yvette and I are happy to guide you. I'd like these by 2/15.
Community Building
- Student Connectedness and kindness challenge: Tell students how important they are. Any one take the 2:10 challenge? I'd love to hear how it's going.
- Daily circles-Tiffany shared a powerful circle she held last week. She asked students if they felt safe at school. She had some very shocking comments. They stated they were afraid of things like shooters, police, break ins... not being bullied or feeling unwanted at school. Having direct discussions like these can ease their less realistic fears. Our 5th graders take the CHK Survey on Wednesday. Make it a point to have a positive exchange with a 5th grade students and send the subtle message about how important they are.
- Don't forget to promote the "penny drive" for the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary.
