Condit Elementary Weekly Bulletin
10/15/18
Message from Dr. Malally
There was a great crowd at the Fall Festival this past Friday night. Thank you to the Fall Festival Committee, PFA, Grade Level Booth Parent Coordinators, and the many other parent volunteers leading up to, and at the event. I saw so many smiling faces and happy voices. It was also a sweet treat to have Mr. Robert, our former crossing guard, volunteering his time to help keep our families safe. It was definitely a fun event to kick off the fall season.
This week is Digital Citizenship Week at Condit, across CUSD, and throughout the State of California. At Condit we will be addressing the following:
*How students should manage their online information and keep it secure.
For families that would like more information, please visit www.commonsense.org.
Lastly, check out the 100 Mile Club's Virtual Run information. It is a great way for our families to get miles outside of organized events. It is on the honor system, so please keep that in mind when submitting your miles. The link is below. Condit participants in the 100 Mile Club Virtual Run can submit their miles to the Condit Office at the beginning of November to receive credit.
Have a GREAT week!

Hey Parents! Do you know what Condit's School-wide Expectations are?
Condit is in our second year of implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS is an approach to teaching and supporting positive behaviors and meeting the needs of ALL students. This school-wide approach to discipline focuses on building a safe and positive environment in which all students can learn.
The foundation of PBIS at Condit is the five school-wide expectations:
· Respect
· Ownership
· Cooperation
· Kindness
· Safety
Since the first full week of school, we have had a school-wide focus on each one of the expectations above. We began with Respect, and have incorporated the focus into our daily classroom instruction, out on the playground, and morning announcements with music. As we begin our sixth week of school, our school-wide focus is on Safety. Students are being recognized for demonstrating all of our school-wide expectations with Condit ROCKStars! Please be sure to ask your students about how they are being ROCKStars!
Behavior Matrices are located around the school and in the classrooms that include the expected behaviors. There is a Home Matrix below that you can incorporate at home if you would like.

All you have to do is shop as you normally do, snap pictures of your receipts with the app, and voila Just shop, snap, earn!
Get started today:
1. Download the free Shoparoo app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store

Cell Phones/Watches-Updated 10/8/18
Except for prior consent for health reasons, use of personal electronic signaling devices, including but not limited to cellular/digital telephones at school is prohibited during the school day. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that his/her cellular device is silenced and secured at all times during the school day. Watches with GPS, texting and communications capabilities may be worn, but we suggest that the communication capabilities be disabled during the school day. Students wishing to contact a parent may come to the school office to get assistance. A student experiencing a health problem should ask to go to the health office. Students needing to use such devices for health-related purposes are permitted to do so with signed consent from a licensed physician. The student is not to use the signaling devise to communicate during the school day or use it in a manner that disrupts learning. While problems related to the use of cellular phones and other electronic signaling devices are limited at the elementary school level, as always our intention is to protect the learning environment from disruptions.
What to discuss with your child regarding this technology
· Why the device should not be used at school and how to get help from the school staff.
· How to secure and store the device.
· Each person has a right of privacy, therefor it is inappropriate to video or record anyone without the consent of the individual and the school staff.
· Talk to your child about what is an appropriate and inappropriate text message. Cyber-bullying is unacceptable, and will be followed up by the school.
· Have a conversation about age appropriate content and social media.
· What is in posted on social media, sent in a text message, or through an app never goes away.
· To read and think about what is being said before posting or pushing send.

The 100 Mile Club in 2018-2019
We LOVE to have our family members join the 100 Mile Club, and want to include your miles in our school-wide goals. For any person that is not an enrolled student at Condit, we will continue to pass out "Guest" sticks. Students will continue to collect our usual sticks stamped with Condit on them, but the "Guest" sticks will be blue. If you are a family member that plans on joining the 100 Mile Club, please make sure that you are collecting the blue sticks for each lap that you do. Outside events will be credited based on the registration forms that indicate participants name.
