News from our Assistant Principal...
It seems cliché to say that this school year has absolutely flown by. However, it is now April and we only have a couple months left of the 2020-2021 school year. It’s been a pleasure seeing how much our students have grown, academically and socially these past several months.
The 4th grade Writing STAAR test is on April 6th. Many grade levels will follow a different lunch and specials schedule that day. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have questions for the schedule that day. We are so proud of our writers. They have worked very hard this year, and it shows in their work.

Focus: Responsibility
Definition: having a duty to deal with something or have control over ourselves and being accountable for our own decisions
What does it mean to have responsibility or to be a responsible person?
A responsible person means being able to consciously make decisions and conduct behaviors that seek to improve oneself and help others. A responsible person accepts the consequences of his or her own actions and decisions.
What it looks like to be responsible:
1) Tell the truth
2) Do what’s right (even when no one is looking)
3) Help others
4) Work hard
Guidance Lessons:
During Guidance Lessons, your students are learning about personal responsibility. This can include:
Owning my choices (taking responsibility for their actions) instead of blaming others
Giving genuine apologies instead of just saying the words “I’m sorry”
Doing something to “right the wrong” when I make the wrong choice
Being sincere
Follow with an action to help “right the wrong”
Choosing what’s right and what I feel comfortable doing instead of “following the crowd”
Choosing my own friends (not just who other kids like - or to “be cool”)
Standing up for others and myself when the time comes
Making the right choice, even if others around me are doing something different
Handling tough situations in a kind and respectful way
Thank you in advance for taking the time to discuss this with your students and encouraging them to practice being responsible and taking personal responsibility for their actions.
Assistance:
If your family is in need of assistance or resources for mental health, please feel free to contact me. I would love to help find the resources that work for your family.
