Read2Write & Study Skills

Session 1: July 25-28, 2022 for students entering grades 5-8

Session 2: August 1-4, 2022 for students entering grades 5-8

Time: 9:00am-1:00pm

Location: California Lutheran University

Fee: $225 per student


Students will learn about...

Study Skills:

• Time management and organizational skills

• Test-taking and note-taking skills

• Google Apps for Education

Informational Reading:

• Annotation (for targeted writing tasks)

• Compare and Contrast (for argument and explanatory writing tasks)

Expository/Explanatory Writing:

• Pre-Writes directly from annotations

• Structural sentence starters anyone can use

• Student exemplars to be studied

Art of the Masters

Session One: July 25-28, 2022 for students entering grades 6-8

Session Two: August 1-4, 2022 for students entering grades 3-5

Time: 9:00am-1:00pm

Location: California Lutheran University

Fee: $225 per student


Students will:

• Explore the lives and artistic techniques of great art masters (such as Monet and Picasso)

• Create 4 original pieces of art in the style of each master

• Explore the masters' techniques using the art mediums of chalk pastel, oil pastel, and watercolors

• Create an art portfolio containing their unique pieces of art to bring home on the last day of camp

FINDING THE POET/WRITER WITHIN

Dates: July 25-28, 2022 for students entering grades 3-5

Time: 9:00am -1:00pm

Location: California Lutheran University

Fee: $225 per student


Students will:

• Use both their imagination and truth-telling skills to write poetry and descriptive prose

• Practice painting pictures with words

• Explore literary elements such as metaphor, simile, anaphora, and alliteration


The last day will end with a celebration of words and families are warmly invited!
