Practice Courtesy and Compassion in the Parking Lot

This month our social emotional focus for students is COMPASSION. Webster's defines compassion as sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it.

Have you ever thought about how you feel in the congested parking lot/parent pick up line at 3:00pm? I will bet the other drivers are feeling the same way. Let's practice courtesy at the intersection and let one car turn left for every car that turns right into our area, just as we would do at a 4 way stop. That's one way you can alleviate someone else's distress at the end of the school day! :) I know we can do it!

We will be talking about compassion with students each day on the announcements. Empathy and compassion are connected. First we have to understand how someone else feels. Then we do something about it to help alleviate their distress. Compassion includes ACTION. Stay tuned for more information about VV students taking action...

(Forms are also available in the school office). Testing dates for K-1st and 3rd-5th graders will take place during mid-January at 7:15 AM in Room 103.
