The Siple Scoop
MAY 2023
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Siple Families,
I have an outstanding team of educators. I proudly stand behind each and every one of them and know they provide an excellent education to every student that comes through Siple Elementary. I hope you will join me in recognizing my outstanding staff during Staff Appreciation Week May 8-12. We will celebrate not only classroom teachers, but also, secretaries, paraprofessionals, playground monitors, cooks, bus drivers, and custodians. Our PTO has planned a wonderful week filled with ways to celebrate this incredibly dedicated team.
I have included an article later in the newsletter on how you can join in the celebration. Your child can draw a picture or write a note as well. Each student will receive a Cardinal Note that they may choose to complete and return to the Siple Office as a way to express their appreciation to a Siple staff member. These are treasured gifts that my staff members love receiving.
If you would like to help with any of the special events planned by the PTO, please contact the PTO officers at siplePTO@gmail.com. Thank you for helping make Staff Appreciation Week a very special time for our staff members!

FUN TO BE FIT
I can't believe it's already May! This month we are going to learn a new game called Ga Ga Ball. It is a fast pace game that is played in a pit. The pit is big enough that the whole class can play at once. The objective to Ga Ga Ball is to bat the ball and try to hit another student in the leg below the knee. If a student gets hit below the knee then they are out of the game. The game will continue like this until it gets down to only one student left - They win the game and then everybody gets to come back in and play again. I will be re-teaching sportsmanship as well to make sure that all of our students are playing with good sportsmanship in mind. This is the first time many of our Siple students will play this game so talking to our students on how to be respectful and patient with some of the new players will also be important.
Field Day is Thursday, June 15th this year. I will be sending out more information and volunteer sheets home with the students so please be watching out for that if you would like to volunteer for field day. Field Day is ran by my parents so the more parents I have the better and more smooth field day goes. Please put June 15th on your calendar! This is a day you don't want to miss out on. All parents that attend will be assigned a station to work.
Thank you.

MUSIC NEWS
Our 3rd graders have been working very hard on a repertoire of songs that they will be able to perform by the end of the school year! To showcase these students’ achievements, we will be holding a Siple Recorder mini Concert! This performance will take place on, Thursday,
May 18th, in our Siple Gymnasium at the times listed below. Each class will have their very own performance time, which will allow for an up-close, more relaxed, and family filled setting where the audience will not only be able to enjoy the instrumental performance, but will also be able to see the music being played. We look forward to seeing you there!
5th Grade Band and Orchestra Recruitment:
Our Siple 4 th graders have really enjoyed getting to see, hear, and even play some instruments from the Band and Orchestra within these past couple of weeks. If your child is still interested in playing in the Band or Orchestra next year, please sign them up online through the email that was sent out a couple weeks ago OR have them return the paper copy of the sign-up letter that was given to them (return it to Mrs. Odglen). Please get these sign-ups in ASAP as the Hahn Music team is already working to contact and form their groups for next year! Thank you so much!

STEM FUN
Hello Siple families, it is hard to believe we are heading into the home stretch of this school year. This May we will work on a few projects for each grade level during the month that will be included as part of the end of the year report card grade. The students have been turning in writing assignments and Google slide assignments as part of their grades and participation, so this is a continuation of learning for most students. We will also spend a few weeks using STEM bins and working on simple engineering challenges. Please contact me directly if you have any questions or concerns. You can easily reach me via email.
