Seeking Winter Wonderland Decoration Donations
Our office team is seeking donations of decorations with a winter wonderland theme. If you have extra winter decorations to lend to our cause, we'd appreciate them!
Caution - Cell Phone & Social Media Usage
I'd like to ask for your support in monitoring your child's texting and social media usage. This past week, we've seen a notable increase in incident reports that relate to student group text message chains and social media apps, including SnapChat. When these situations lead to disruptions on campus, students may be subject to disciplinary consequences. Students may also be violating cyberbullying statutes, which can have other serious repercussions.
Now is a good time to reinforce family expectations for the responsible use of wireless communication devices and social media, as well as checking in on your student's online profile. We thank you for partnering with us to keep our students safe and focused on their academic and social growth in positive ways. This article, from Common Sense Media, offers a perspective on how to set those expectations for school aged children.

Boys' Basketball & Competitive Cheerleading
Despite our best efforts, we're not having any luck with hiring coaches for our boys' basketball and competitive cheer programs. If you know of someone who'd consider an opportunity to work with our Archers, we'd love to hear from them! Interested candidates can apply online at the district's hiring website.

"Parents who are worried about their children’s economic futures might want to pay attention to this: According to a report issued in February of this year by the New York Fed, 8 of the 10 college majors with the highest early career median wages are in engineering.
Do I have your attention? If so, answer this quiz question: What high school courses in math and science should your children take to best prepare to succeed as college engineering majors?" - excerpt from guest column by Paul Cottle; photo credit: JEFFEREE WOO | Times (2022)

Our after school program offers supervised homework time supported by certified teachers who can assist with math, science, language arts and more! At just $7/hr, you can't beat this option to help your student complete his/her missing/incomplete work with assistance from caring instructors.
Yearbook Sales - Buy Now!
Our first ever yearbook is on sale! Order your copy online using the link below. The yearbook staff is also selling business ads, which are a great way to support their work and help keep the yearbook costs lower.
After surveying local middle schools, we are not planning to sell ads for individual students until we have a senior class.
Questions about yearbooks may be directed to our yearbook sponsor, Mrs. Swain.
The 1 Thing That Helped My Child’s Anxiety
You may not always know how to help your child with anxiety. I sure didn't, especially when my 15-year-old daughter had her first panic attacks during the chaos of 2020. I attempted to talk her panic and anxiety away using my go-to: logic. You may also spin some of these classics: “You need to calm down. Nothing can be as bad as all this. You need to get yourself together so I can help you.” These comments made things even worse for her. But if she didn’t need logic from me, what did she need? I was clueless about how to respond to her subsequent panic attacks. Then something amazing happened. My friends Will Hutcherson and Chinwé Williams asked me to be a pre-reader of their book, Seen: Despair and Anxiety in Kids and Teenagers and the Power of Connection. This timing couldn’t have been more perfect, and the advice couldn’t have been more effective. While the book had many insights, I want to give you just one way to help ease your child’s anxiety, even during panic attacks.
Huddle up with your kids and ask, “When do you feel the most anxious?”
