Reminders about the Symphony Field Trip
Greetings from the music room!
Our exciting 5th grade field trip to the Plano Symphony Orchestra concert is just one week away! We will be traveling to the Eisemann Center next Wednesday, February 7. Thank you all for returning your permission slips so quickly. A few reminders are listed below.
- We will leave around 10:00 and will return by 1:00. Students will not be eating in the cafeteria when we return; they will dine in their classrooms. If you have ordered your child a lunch from the cafeteria, it will be available for pick up. If you opted to send a lunch from home, please remember to do this so your child has something to eat! :)
- Students are expected to dress up for this occasion. I have reminded all students of these expectations as they have come to music class over the last several weeks. Jeans, shorts, sweats, and athletic wear are discouraged. Tennis shoes are fine! This is always harder for the boys than the girls. Boys typically wear khakis or cargo pants, or some even get really dressed up in dress slacks. A nice shirt (other than a t-shirt) is encouraged. For the girls, I have told them that pants are fine, as long as they are dressy. Of course, dresses and skirts are great, too. Leggings will be just fine if paired with something nice on top. For all students, please make sure they are dressed weather-appropriately. It could be 20 or 60...who knows??
If you have any questions or concerns, please ask. I appreciate your help in making sure our students are representing Smith in style!
Valentine's Day Sweetness
Valentine's Day Party- Our Valentine’s Day party will be on Wednesday, February 14th at 1:45. A link will be sent out next week to preregister.
Valentines Boxes -To keep things organized, we ask that students bring in a shoe box, brown bag, or a grocery sack (double bagged in case suckers make holes!) for collecting their Valentine goodies.
Optional Valentine’s Day Activity- We LOVE this 5th grade activity because we have some really creative kids!! Students can join the optional Valentine’s Box class competition and let those creative juices flow. In this competition, students will bring in a “box” that competes in one or more of the following categories:
- Best Use of Household Products
- Best Use of Valentine’s Day Theme
- Most Creative
- Best Overall
Students in the class will vote on their favorite box using a ballot. There will be prizes for one winner of each category. The box should not be larger than a copy paper box. Students may begin bringing boxes in on Monday, February 12 (NOT BEFORE) or keep their box a secret until the 14th! The ideas are endless. May the best boxes win!
Smencils are Coming!!!
Get excited everyone! The kids LOOOOVE these things!
This is a wonderful opportunity to help support the end of year 5th grade party AND have some Valentine fun! See below for details.
