Meet NoNamé
The Story of NoNamé
Meet NoNamé, a 4 year old BLM (Bureau of Land Management) Mustang captured from the Idaho range in 2011. NoNamé comes to Locust Trace as part of our training program for third year students in the Equine Studies Program. Known around LTAC as Equine Training, Sales, and Marketing, the goal of this course is to teach students training techniques from the ground up. Depending on the level of training each horse comes in with, students determine goals for the horse and the course of training. Some horses need to start at the very beginning including learning how to be haltered and led all the way up to saddling and being ridden for the first time.
NoNamé was donated to the program having some training but a complete mistrust of humans based on previous experiences after his capture. The students have started working with NoNamé and have already seen a marked difference in his behavior and attitude. The goal is to be riding NoNamé by spring of 2016. The students will then help facilitate his sale by learning marketing and sales techniques within the equine industry. The proceeds from the sale of NoNamé will be used by students in the course to adopt or purchase a new horse for the 2016-2017 class.
