A note from Ms. Dechant!
Dear Claxton Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed the nice weather this weekend. It was very different than what we were experiencing a week ago. Due to the days missed because of the snow, we will not start our After School Arts classes until Monday, February 8. The classes will be held for ten weeks. PTO will be sending the class assignments home this week. I apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this has caused you and your family.
I am excited to announce that we are going to hire three full time assistants to support grades third, fourth, and fifth with some additional funds provided by central services. We have posted the positions, and Mr. Edwards and I will conduct interviews this week. While the funding is only for the remainder of the year, we are thankful to have this extra support.
Please save the date for our annual Light the Night Auction on Friday, March 18. This event is the Claxton PTO's largest fundraiser. The event is a great way to come together to support our school, meet new parents, and have a great time.
Thank you for your continued support of our school. We are so blessed to have amazing students, staff, and families.

Quick overview of what are we learning
Fundations: The unit 7 test were great and I am so proud of our students' hard work. This week we began Unit 8 in Fundations. In this unit we learn about constant blends, r controlled vowels and trick words. I sent home for this week only and next week I will send home week 2.
Writing: This week we are making our writing stronger by adding adjectives to help the reader visualize what we write.
Daily 5: We are reviewing non-fiction text features and how to use them for research questions. We are also learning about main idea and key details.
mCLASS Test still to take in the middle of February...
Nonsense Word Fluency (ket, mip, lac)
Reading Fluency (reading accuracy and speed)
Math: In math we are looking at word problems and determining if Addition Addi or if Subby Bunny are coming to the party.
Science: We complete some force and position experiments including testing our three little pig houses. We take a force and motion test on Thursday.
