Mum Sale on Saturday, September 17th
The FFA Mum sale will be coming up on Saturday September 17th, 2022, 8:00 A.M. Sharp! The pick will be first come first serve. They will be wet and freshly watered, so plan accordingly. Our mums will be $18.00 each! They are currently growing at 6408 Five Corners Road, Smithville. If you are out for a drive, come by and take a look! The mums are extra large and very full. I think you will be impressed. We will have pumpkins, decorative gourds and squash too. Hope to see you there!
Again, Thank you for your continued support of the Smithville FFA Chapter.
National Merit Semifinalist
Congratulations to SHS senior Alexander Duckwitz, who was recently named a 2023 National Merit Semifinalist. Less than 1% of high school seniors nationwide receive this honor each year. Alex is one of 16,000 academically talented Semifinalists who will compete for $28 million in scholarships this spring.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and college scholarships that began in 1955. United States high school students enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which serves as an initial screen of over 1.5 million entrants each year, and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements. Reminder for Juniors
Hello Juniors,
On Wednesday, October 12, you have the opportunity to take the optional PSAT/NMSQT exam. The exam will run from 8:00-11:00 at SHS. The PSAT is a pre-SAT exam that allows juniors with a high exam score to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The cost to take the exam is $18. Please complete this form by Friday, October 7 if you would like to take the exam. The PSAT exam fee will be added to RevTrak after the student tests on October 12.
Stop by the counseling center if you have any questions.
22-23 Chromebook Insurance
If you have not yet purchased Chromebook insurance it's not too late! Having insurance for your student's chromebook can mean the difference between a $25 deductible fee and hundreds of dollars in repair fees. Uninsured repair fees start at $45 and go up from there. In addition, students who do not have chromebook insurance are required to leave their chromebook at school instead of taking it home.
Chromebook insurance costs $15 and can still be purchased. Here is the link to purchase insurance.
Families with Free & Reduced lunch benefits have the $15 waived.
If you paid for insurance last year, it will expire on 9/20/22. Don't delay, purchase your Chromebook insurance today!

News from Ms. Courtoises' Sculpture Class
Sculpture students used the subtractive method to evoke biomorphic form. We tried to go into this project with little planning in order for the designs to happen organically. Pretty cool considering they're just soap!
Senior T-Shirts
Seniors can pick up their senior shirt before or after school from Ms. Cox in room 127

Sign up will continue until the week of, but in order to guarantee a t-shirt please sign up by Friday Aug 26th.
Unable to join us for a run, we are also seeking volunteers to help with the actual race itself. There are several different volunteer opportunities. You can fill out this google form if you would like to help. We provide all of our volunteers with a great shirt as well!
