Our Futures are Bright at Huggins!
Hound Family,
We certainly are in the final stretch of what will no doubt be a year to remember! With two weeks left of school, we hope this newsletter finds you and your family doing well.
The last day of school for the 19-20 school year is June 4th. Teachers will be providing virtual learning opportunities until then. Please be sure your child is continuing to complete and submit assignments as teachers are preparing for report card submission.
We will be utilizing June 2nd – June 5th for parents to pick up student materials from Huggins. Please see the schedule below to determine the best day/time for your family.
Prior coming to campus, please take time to gather all items that need to be returned to the campus, such as library books and classroom readers. Place all items in a bag or box and place it in the trunk of your car. Clearly label the bag/box with your child’s name, grade, and teacher.
We will be utilizing our car rider tag numbers for our end-of-year process. All families were provided a car rider tag at the beginning of the school year. If you cannot find your tag, please do not worry. You can write your child’s first and last name on a piece of paper and display it on your windshield. We will be able to identify the tag number when you arrive on campus.
Teachers and staff will have gathered your child’s belongings, which will be waiting for you to collect when you arrive. This will include all personal items from your child’s desk, as well as his or her report card and any spring picture orders.
On your designated day/time, please utilize Charger Way to access the campus. From Charger Way, Turn left onto Huggins Drive. Turn right into the car rider line. Follow the car rider line to Huggins Drive and turn right. Make an immediate right into the bus loading driveway. Staff will be stationed on the bus porch to assist you.
When you arrive at Huggins, please utilize the following procedures:
· Please do not park in a parking space. Utilize the car line system outlined above.
· Do not roll down your window. We will utilize your car rider tag number or name display to locate your child’s items.
· Please stay in the car at all times. While we encourage waving, students should not hug, fist-bump or get out of the vehicle at any time.
· When you pull up to the bus loading area, please put your car in park. You will open your trunk from inside the vehicle so that the staff member can take out the pre-labeled bag/box with district-owned items. If you cannot open your trunk from the inside, roll down the passenger side window so that the bag/box can be transferred to the staff member.
· The staff member will then place your child’s bag of personal items in your trunk or pass through the passenger window.
· If your child has medication in the clinic, the nurse will come to you for delivery.
While we know this is not the way any of us thought we would end the 19-20 school year, the safety of our students, staff, and community remains our top priority. While we are sad that our normal traditions are on hold, we feel that it is important to find creative ways to celebrate the success of our students. In your grade level newsletters, classroom teachers should have shared specific information related to our Classroom Zoom Celebrations of Learning that will be taking place on Monday, June 1st. Here is a grade-level schedule so that you can save the date/time:
Pre-K: 1:00pm-2:00pm
Kindergarten: 9:00am-10:00am
First Grade: 11:00am-12:00pm
Second Grade: 1:00pm-2:00pm
Third Grade: 10:00am-11:00am
Fourth Grade: 12:00pm-1:00pm
Fifth Grade: 2:00pm-3:00pm
In addition to our Zoom Celebrations of Learning, we want to be sure to honor our Fifth Graders as they head off to Roberts Middle School. We will be holding a Fifth Grade Car Parade on Friday, June 5th from 10:00am-11:00am. Staff members will be ready to wave and congratulate our Fifth Graders for their hard work and accomplishments during their elementary years.
As we transition into the end of the school year and summer break, we are already gathering information for the fall. Please use this link https://forms.gle/BJSddCvQmHTJX9SN8 to complete a short Parent Input Form to help provide input about your child for the 20-21 school year. This form will help us with class placement.
As I shared before, please be sure that you are monitoring district communication through our website at https://www.lcisd.org/about/lamar-cisd-covid-19-coronavirus-updates as the district has created a specific page dedicated to parents and students. The district is also sharing emails with updates as needed. If you utilize social media, please be sure to follow the Huggins Elementary - LCISD Facebook Page as well.
If you have an incoming kindergarten or know someone who does...please encourage them to start the registration process! Monitoring registration numbers helps us to make informed decisions with staffing. Registration information is below.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions/concerns you may have. My email address is Bethany.cunningham@lcisd.org
Sincerely,
Bethany Cunningham
