Important Notes
- If your child will go home a different way than usual, you will need to write a note. If I do not have a note saying they will go home a different way, I will send them home their normal way. Please do not Dojo message to tell me. I do not check my messages on Dojo until after school.
- Please, please make sure your child has a supply of pencils. I am quickly running out of pencils to loan out.
- Please remember, our day starts at 7:30. Students switch classes at 7:45. Every minute of our day is precious. Thank you.
- We will go outside for recess everyday unless it is raining, the playground is under water, or it is below freezing. Please send your child to school dressed for the weather. Our recess is 30-40 minutes long. Any students without adequate coverage will not be permitted to have outside recess.
- If you need to contact me, please use email. It is not easy to see that there is a dojo message. In addition, students sometimes see who the messages are from as dojo is displayed on the Smartboard at all times. Thank you.
- Remember students are not permitted in school unless they have been 24 hours fever, vomit, and diarrhea free without the use of medication. Thank you.
- SOS! We are in need of disinfecting wipes and tissues. If you have any to spare, we will be happy to take them off of your hands. Thanks!
Language Arts Notes
We are finally back in the swing of things. Phew! This week, we will finish up our last lesson in unit 3 of our Journeys series, which focuses on main idea. We will also use this week to catch up on writing and Social Studies while reviewing reading skills taught so far this year. We will read a lot of nonfiction in the process. On Friday, we will join the entire fourth grade in kicking off A Wrinkle in Time. This should be a fun day for students as they preview and get excited about reading this novel. For the next couple of weeks, we will use A Wrinkle in Time as the basis for our whole group reading and Journeys as small group. I really think students are going to love it.
In Writing, we will finish writing and publish our persuasive pieces. I will share specific pieces with some staff members to which they were directed in hopes of giving students a voice in what happens at SFL. We will also continue to improve our grammar, spelling, and writing mechanics.
Social Studies Notes
We are moving right along with our study of North Carolina's role in American history. Over the next couple of weeks, we will discuss North Carolina's role in slavery, the Civil War, World Wars I and II, women's suffrage, the Civil Rights Movement, and even the Vietnam Conflict. The next couple of weeks will be filled with lots of information and questions.
