Monday Message

Week of April 27th - May 1st

Happy Monday everyone! Have you heard?? There is no testing this week!! That's because it's D-O-N-E! Thanks to EVERYONE for their flexibility and cooperation last week. Your willingness to "take one for the team" allowed everything to run smoothly and go off without a hitch! Here is a look at the fun, exciting week ahead!

Monday, April 27th: #CelebrateMonday Tweet out the positive things happening in your classroom and our school using the #CelebrateMonday hashtag. Did your K student finally learn to tie his/her shoes? Tweet it with #CelebrateMonday! Maybe a student reached an academic milestone they have been striving for all year - tweet it with #CelebrateMonday! Let's see how many tweets we can get!

Today is the first day of early voting. We have a school board election on May 9th. This is an important election considering we are in the process of naming a new superintendent - everyone needs to exercise their right to vote. Feel free to leave after your kiddos are dismissed in order to go vote.

The Morris Brothers are in the house this morning! K-2 will begin at 8:30 in the cafeteria and 3-5 will follow at 9:30. We will call you when it is time for you to start making your way to the cafeteria.

A special board meeting has been called for tonight to announce the lone finalist for LISD Superintendent. The meeting will begin at 6:30 at the Bolin Center. Come out to show your support if your schedule permits.

Tuesday, April 28th: Traci will be out in the morning at a vertical team meeting. I will be available if needed.

Wednesday, April 29th: Traci & I will both be out in the morning at meetings. We should both return before noon.

6 members of the OSE staff will be participating in the LISD FCA Dodgeball tournament at FMHS and need your support! The first game is at 5:05 at FMHS. Make plans to come out and cheer them on!

Thursday, April 30th: Are you ready for an action-packed, fun-filled day because DIA IS HERE! Please refer to the information and schedule that Whitney has prepared for the day. This is intended to be a fun day centered around kids and books; hence, the name Dia de los Libros/Dia de los Ninos. Whitney has provided many ideas/activities for you to use in your classroom that go along with reading. Of course, you can incorporate whatever you have in your bag of tricks as well! Just relax, have fun and enjoy this day with your kids! I also can't wait to see everyone dressed as a book character! Fun times!

For those of you that may not know, the 3rd grade class from Lakeland will be spending part of the day with us today to help us celebrate the theme of DIA this year, which is Celebrate Diversity. In addition, we will have visitors from LISD central administration, as well as various school board members and possibly community members who will be making an appearance. Let's make sure we make all of our visitors feel welcome!

Friday, May 1st: It's FIELD DAY! Please refer to any information Mr. Restuccia has given you to find out where your class starts.

Dr. Rogers will be on campus sometime in the afternoon for a site visit. I warned him it was Field Day, but he still wanted to come! Oh brave one!

That's all I've got STARS! If you think of something I have forgotten, please let me know and I will get it out to everyone. Have a wonderful week!

Twitter Moment of the Week!

Traci and I sitting at the table in my office when she casually says, "Who is Taye Diggs?" I reply , "He's an actor." Traci looks up at me and says, "Wait...what?" I repeat, "He's an actor." She says excitedly AND smiling, "Oh my gosh! He just followed me!" Less than 10 seconds later, "Wait....why would he follow me? But it's neat, right?" I laugh and reply, "Yes, it's neat!" And finally Traci says, "This needs to be in the Monday Message!" Of course it is! Here you go Traci!
