Welcome Back Wizards!
At the start of the 2018–19 school year, the Windsor High School (WHS) community has a rare opportunity to experience our school again for the first time. For our students, their families, and our staff alike, this school year marks a new beginning!
Our school has been remodeled and has received an extraordinary addition. Over the past two years, the construction process—from design to completion—motivated our staff to think about how we could fully embrace our district’s vision of inspiring innovation and empowering success. A year ago, our staff came together to construct our vision of the future for WHS students. That vision helped guide us as we gave (and continue to give) ourselves permission to not just think outside the box but to think like there is no box at all.
When you were in school, you may remember going from class to class, with each period bringing new topics or areas of study. It may have been a rare occasion when two of your teachers collaborated on a project or when you had the opportunity to work on distinct aspects of the same project in different classes. These are some of the ways that we are changing things up at WHS. We are putting into place an entrepreneurial cycle that will allow students to take a project from concept, through design, development, and launch. Throughout our building, in the new Innovation Center and beyond, students and staff will be engaging collaboratively in this cycle throughout the year.
I know that this may feel like a change from the norm and that it is going to take some getting used to for students and teachers alike; however, our administrative team will be here every step of the way to support this important progression of the education at WHS.
In addition to instituting the entrepreneurial cycle, this year, our school community will be working to increase successful experiences for students in the classroom and beyond and working toward a more personalized approach to learning, including helping all learners (and their families) understand and own their data and learning. We know that when our students are invested in their learning, they feel engaged, hopeful, celebrated—and when necessary, able to navigate disappointments and challenges—as they work toward achieving their goals. This investment builds confidence, which we hope our students will employ to try something new this year!
Our superintendent, Dan Seegmiller, spent time visiting with Weld RE-4 alumni this summer. In his conversations, he noticed a theme: our students wished that they had pushed themselves to explore and discover new things, to take classes in areas that were not their “sweet spots,” to participate in extracurricular clubs or activities where they could have met new people or learned new things about our community. This is such a valuable reflection. We will be making an extra push this year (and we hope that you will too) to help our students utilize their unique strengths and interests and to explore new ones.
Here we go, Wizards! We look forward to a new beginning with you all. In the words of the poet Rainer Maria Rilke, “And now let us welcome the new year, full of things that never were.”

Film Crew at WHS September 24–October 12
I’m excited to share that WHS students, staff, and families will be filmed during the span of two weeks this fall (Sept. 24 - Oct. 12) for a video about high school in Weld RE-4 being produced by our district. When complete, this video will be posted publicly on the district website and social media, the Windsor High School and the new Severance High School websites and social media, and will also be shown to parents at high school information nights in the future. We expect to use this video for at least the next three years.
Only if you DO NOT want your child to be featured in the video, please fill out this form by September 14. We expect the video will be available for viewing in December of this year.
2019–2020 District Boundary Changes
The Weld RE-4 School District will conduct a public process to create an enrollment boundary for Severance High School (opening in fall, 2019) and examine school boundaries district-wide in an effort to fix imbalances in school populations due to enrollment growth concentrated in certain areas of our district.
Please mark your calendar for the following 2018 public meetings:
Tuesday, October 23rd at 7:00 pm, at Severance Middle School
Thursday, October 25th at 7:00 pm, at Grandview Elementary School
Monday, October 29th at 5:30 pm, at Windsor High School
