The Hall Way...

Northwood has many traditions. One of those special traditions is our Veteran's Day Assembly and Recognition in November. The Veteran's Day Committee is already planning this amazing day for our students and they are looking for speakers for our classroom and assembly. Please see the info below from the committee for details.

Have a great weekend, Warhawks!

Please have your student bring 6th grade and sport physicals, dental forms, and immunization records to the nurse ASAP. The nurse also needs updated medication forms for students. If you have any questions, please give our school nurse a call. Thank you for your help as we collect this important paperwork for our students.

6th Grade News

Miss Karafa’s classes are finishing up reading a short story titled “The Ravine.” While the story itself was full of suspense, many students found the ending to be a letdown. Next, they will read a poem. While students are not able to take textbooks home, they do have access to an electronic version of the textbook. This site is already bookmarked for them under the wcusd200.org bookmarks.

Our writing is off to a great start! Students particularly enjoyed creating maps and drawing potential stories on these maps. This unit’s writing focus is on personal narratives, and students are starting to recognize that they have many great “small moments” that they can expand into a whole story. Our next goal will be to increase the length of these stories.

8th Grade News

8th Grade Literacy students have been SUPER busy in this first month of school.

Dual Language classes are starting the year with scary stories. We've talked about what makes a scary story and *hint hint* it's NOT just the monster!

Blocked Literacy classes are diving in with a Collection on Culture and Belonging with a special focus on writing personal narratives. Students have been writing, writing and writing as they try out different ways to express their Small Moments. Ask you student what we've been writing about!

Mrs. Healless's literacy class started the year by performing a play by Shakespeare. Here are a few pictures of the students sharing their sonnets in front of the class.
