Focus On Education
Friday, February 24, 2023
Our Brickies are engaged in a variety of activities and programs to prepare for their future academically. From test preparation to hands-on learning opportunities, our students are continuing to invest time and effort into their academic growth. It's not ALL work and no play, though, within SCOH! Check out how our staff and students are finding time for both in this week's edition of Focus on Education!
HHS Student Council Visits Indiana Statehouse
It was a long day, but despite the rain and snow, Hobart High School Student Council had a fantastic field trip to the Indiana Statehouse last Thursday, February 16. Mr. Horjus, the Student Council sponsor, said "It was an amazing trip! So rewarding for myself and all of our students!" In exciting thoughts for the future, the group discussed the potential to watch a Supreme Court case live in the future, and at least two of our students made connections to possibly intern at the Statehouse after high school! Senator Eddie Melton also said he is interested in coming to HHS to speak with our students after Senate is out of session! Very exciting news from an awesome day!

Eian Ferba Looks to Make a Splash at State Diving Finals!
During Power Hour on Thursday morning, HHS celebrated senior diver, Eian Ferba, with a send-off parade as he prepared to head to Indy for the State Finals! Thank you the HHS Athletic Department, Marching Band, and our cheerleaders for helping us celebrate his amazing accomplishment! (They are certainly putting the work in, as this is our THIRD State send-off parade in three weeks!)
Good luck, Eian! We are already so proud of you! Way to be excellent on purpose! BRICKIE UP! 💜💛
Brickie Wrestlers Make the Podium in Indy!
Seth Aubin and Aidan Costello, two Brickie sophomores, made SCOH proud at the state wrestling finals. Aidan wrestled his way to an impressive 5th place finish, while Seth fought to secure 8th place in his weight class. It's clear that these two worked hard and put in the extra effort to make it to the state finals and bring pride to themselves, their team, and their school. They demonstrated grit and perseverance throughout the tournament and showed that they were capable of competing with the best in the state. We are so proud of you, Seth and Aidan! Way to #BeExcellentOnPurpose!
iReady Assessments for Grades K-8!
i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction. i-Ready replaces the Star Renaissance Assessments that they students took last school year.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions based on student responses. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning! I look forward to sharing i-Ready information with you throughout the year. If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact the school. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.
