Welcome Back!
The 2017-2018 School Year Has Begun!
Welcome!
Our theme this year is Challenged Accepted. Whom Shall I Send? Here I am. Send Me! Isaiah 6:8. We are all called to accept the challenge of Seeing Christ in Everyone. You will be hearing about challenges throughout the year. Our Superintendent, Michael Hauptman, challenged our staff to be a part of our visible mass each week.

School News
Welcome Back BBQ & Meet the Staff Evening
The St. Luke staff would like to host your family for a BBQ on Wednesday, September 20 from 5:00-7:30 pm. Come meet the staff and enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks and mingle with our St. Luke school families. A note will be send home for you to RSVP so we know the numbers. Stay tuned!
Communication
Another way for our school to be conscientious and responsible citizens is by reducing paper. We will be posting the weekly memo on our website and social media and will no longer be sending home a paper copy. This will be the only paper copy you receive.
Our school website, https://stl.eics.ab.ca, can be a great source of information about bell times, school calendar, and staff contact information. Also you can follow us on Facebook at St Luke Catholic School and Twitter @STLCS_eics
PowerSchool
We ask all families to log onto PowerSchool to sign and review important forms:
There are three yearly consent forms: Technology Use, Field Trip, and Locker Use Agreement.
Also all families need to go into School Engage within PowerSchool. In this section you need to complete the 2017-2018 EICS Student Data Verification. This form is very important as it provides the school with the most accurate contact information, consent, and FOIPP. Please complete before Sept. 29.
School fees can be paid through your PowerSchool account on ACORN. If paying fees is a financial difficulty, you may be eligible for our fee waiver program, which is accessible online.
If you have any questions or are having trouble logging into your account or unsure if your forms are complete please contact the school office.
Bus Safety
Please ensure that you and your family do not walk between buses when they are parked in front of the school.
Nut Aware
Please bear in mind that St. Luke, along with all Elk Island Catholic Schools, is a nut aware school. Here at St. Luke our goal is to make the environment as safe as possible for students with severe food allergies. In order to give children with life-threatening nut/peanut allergies a chance to feel comfortable and the opportunity to be a part of and not excluded from special prizes, food, and parties with the school setting, we ask that students and parents do their best to make sure that all food items are nut free. Home baked items should not contain nuts or peanuts. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation in helping make out school a safe environment for all students.
St. Luke is an APPLE School
What is APPLE Schools? Our school works with APPLE Schools to build a healthy community. The organization strives to inspire and empower school communities to be leaders in their journey to health by recommending and supporting evidence-based, sustainable changes. Go to APPLE Schools to learn more.
Why is this important? Children with nutritious diets and recommended physical activity levels show better academic results. Healthy habits learned early in life often translate to a lifetime of healthy living.
School Supplies
As you have heard, our district is providing all students with school supplies as part of Bill 1. This means that students did not need to provide basic supplies for their learning. Students have been given enough supplies to last the year with regular wear and tear. The students are expected to respect the materials as their own. You may want to send a computer mouse and headphones for students to use with their devices. More information on this initiative can be found here.
Parent School Council
As a parent in our school community, you are also a member of the Parent Council. The Parent Council is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with other parents, share your ideas, and support initiative that benefits our students.
The first Parent Council meeting will be held on Monday, September 11th at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria at St. Luke School. Free babysitting for young children is available during the meeting.
