Weekly Article: "Ask Me About..."
Each week the grade level teams will publish two to three statements for caregivers to use as conversation starters with their child(ren). Although the Scoop is a great place to see and discuss end-of-learning products, these "ask me about" conversation starters will help promote discussions about current learning. Spanish News:
Forth grade has been taking MCAS so we are just beginning their final projects in which they are writing a book about themselves, We have been working on calendar dates so they can say their birthdays in their books. We've been shaking our tail feathers to the Macarena as we learn the months in Spanish.
The younger grades have been practicing our animals. Ask them what are ants. spiders, fish, shark, cats and butterflies.
The Sesame Street equivalent videos, called Salsa from Georgia Public Broadcasting, we watch in the lower grades are fun to show your kids when Spanish is no longer around. Here is a link. Salsa Videos
In third grade we combined a little STEM engineering and they created paper towers WITHOUT VERBAL COMMUNICATION. We discussed how challenging it was not to speak. How did they communicate without their language? Were their leaders in their groups? Did each have a job? They concluded that it is a lot easier to speak to one another. Ahh the importance of spoken language.
