Class of 2017
FAFSA Instructions
MARCH 10 IS THE FAFSA DEADLINE!
Before a student can receive a federal grant, state grant, subsidized loan, or work-study, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed. After you have filed your FAFSA, the Department of Education will submit your income information to the colleges you select on the form. The colleges will send you award letters that will specify the total cost of attendance at that institution.
All Students should file the FAFSA. If you are a 21st Century Scholar, you will loose your scholarship if you do not file. If you do not currently plan to attend college, your plans may change!
Below you will find instructions to help you file your FAFSA by the March 10 deadline.
Please let me know if you need additional assistance.
Step 2 - Gather needed documents
After you’ve created your FSA ID, the second step in preparing to file the FAFSA is gathering all the information you need to complete the form. INvestEd has created a FAFSA Checklist to help you identify which items you’ll need. If you do not have some of the items on the list - don't worry! Most families only need their 2015 tax information and social security numbers to file.
After you have created your FSA ID and gathered the necessary documents, step three is to file the FAFSA! You can begin this process at FAFSA.gov. A critical piece of the FAFSA is providing accurate tax information which you may be able to transfer directly from the IRS using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. INvestEd has created a step-by-step guide to help you through this process.
