Kid's Deserve It!
Chapter 4: Never Slam the Door
We've reached that time of the year. The honeymoon is over, and those little behaviors start to sneak out. You're seeing that student begin to push buttons-other students, and yours. If you've taught for very long, or even a short time, you know what if feels like to finally reach that student. What do you do with that student? How do you support that student? These are the questions you are probably starting to ask yourself and those around you. The most important thing comes from the 7 Habits: Seek First to Understand. Start with listening. "When you listen to a child, you give him back his voice." (p. 38)
Your kids need you. As educators, we have the opportunity to see children bloom. We plant seeds, provide water, and we have the privilege of watching them grow. That student will frustrate you, take your time, and even make us cry. There's a reason...they NEED YOU!
You're believing in them can make a huge difference. Do something innovative. Write them a note, make a positive call home, do something to let them know you care. "Kids want to know they matter to you. They want to know you see them, hear them, and believe in them - unconditionally." p.41. What can you do to build deeper relationships and connect with your kids.
Share your greatness and help a colleague grow. Comment below and tell a unique way you've reached out and helped a student. Remember, it's not bragging. It's helping others learn and grow.

Talk Like a Pirate and Teach Like one, too!
Ahoy, Matey! Monday is "Talk Like a Pirate" day. Your challenge is not only to TALK like a pirate, but TEACH like one, too. Note it in your lesson plans, and TWEET about it, too.
Don't forget about our Pirate Party in the library on Monday at 3:00. Be on time, Matey, because it won't last long.
Yo-ho-ho and bring your onw bottle of water! Pirate treats provided.
School Picture Day is September 20
Tuesday is the day! Please have your picture taken so it can be added to our emergency database. Even if you took one last year, do it again this year.
