Week at a Glance at HMA
June 23rd, 2017
From the Head of School
Thank you very much to those of you who took time out of your busy schedules to attend our “Meet & Greet” yesterday afternoon. As a new member of this community, I appreciate your warm welcome and hospitality. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with the faculty, parents and your precious children to build a strong and effective community at Heritage Montessori.
As promised, I am sending out a short summary of what we discussed for your benefit as well as for the benefit of those parents who were unable to join us.
Our goals for the 2017-2018 school year:
- work with a web designer to build a new website where current and prospective parents can get up to date and relative information
- develop a strong partnership between home and school through frequent and effective communication including “Week at a Glance” (weekly email communications on Fridays), parent education, effective conferences and a parent organization
- change the schedule /hours of the school operations to accommodate a 3-hour minimum uninterrupted work cycle for primary aged children (3-6 years) and a 1.5 minimum uninterrupted work cycle for pre-primary aged children (18 months -3 years)
- develop bi-lingual programs (Spanish) for toddler aged children and primary aged children through the implementation of a bi-lingual oral language development program and a language lab
- implement and foster structure and respect for the peaceful classroom community by requiring windows for drop off and pick up of children with minimal classroom disruptions
- introduce a parent education program offering topics of relevance to foster the home school partnership including “Toddler Talk”
- formalize the admissions process and deadlines for re-enrollment by grandfathering current fees to those who comply (more details to come)
- organize monthly coffees and informal meetings with the Head of School
- revise the school calendar to add more social events to foster community among faculty, parents and children
- introduce a fine arts program that include art, Spanish, music, dance and physical education
- develop an after-school program that includes a variety of classes for both extended day children and siblings
The goals we have set for Heritage are many and will take time and patience to implement. This is a transitional year for the school and my goal is to work with all of you to make this a community you are proud to be part of.
I am a very big advocate of transparency in management and open communication. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your concerns, ideas and suggestions.
We are also thrilled to welcome a new Administrative Coordinator, Patricia Dokie-Barajas, who has worked with me for the last decade at Pebblecreek Montessori in Allen. Please take a moment to introduce yourself, if you have not already done so. Patricia is a key member of the new administrative team and your “go to“ person for any issues involved in the day to day operations of the school.
Thank you for entrusting us with your children and your continued support of our efforts.
Sincerely,
Susan Dendinger
