India's History
1947
In 1947 India gained it's independence from the British. After that,India was divided into two countries India and Muslim. During this time the countries were controlled by Pakistan.
1948
In 1948 Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated.
1966
In 1966 Indria Gandhi was elected the first woman to lead a nation. Indria Gandhi was not related to Mathatma Gandhi.
2000
India's population increased to 1 billion.
2004-2005
In 2004 through 2005 a series of natural events, such as earthquakes, tsunamis and floods, occurred throughout the southern costal communities.
2007
In 2007 Pratibha Patil became the first female president of India.
2008
In 2008 a sires of explosion killed 49 people in Ahmedabad, India. A group known as the Indian Mujahideen claimed full responsibility.
2012
Mohammed Ajmal Amir Qasab was one of the gunman's in the 2008 explosion.He was taken to Pune jail to be executed.The Supreme Court reschedule his execution till August.
2013
In April of 2013 the people of India started preparing for elections on the 7th.
2014
The Indian election started on the 7th.
